About this listen

He will find the truth. Even if it kills him.

Five months ago, DCI Robert Kett’s wife Billie was snatched from a London street.

Five months of no leads, no evidence, and no suspects.

Until now.

When a routine police search uncovers a chamber of horrors beneath one of the city’s most expensive houses, detectives find a clue that points to Billie’s fate, and to the identity of her kidnapper - an enigmatic killer known as the Pig Man.

Desperate for closure, and still reeling from his last investigation, Kett returns to London for his most personal and most dangerous case yet - a case that pits him against a terrifying evil.

He doesn’t know if Billie is alive or dead. He doesn’t know if he’s too late to save her. All he knows is that he swore he’d go to hell and back to find out what happened.

And now, he's about to.

You won't be able to put down this fast-paced British crime thriller from million-selling author Alex Smith.

Binge the series now:

  • Paper Girls
  • Bad Dog
  • Three Little Pigs
  • Whip Crack
  • Run Rabbit Run
  • Stone Cold Dead
  • Every Mother's Son (coming soon)

Alex Smith wrote his first book when he was six. It wasn’t particularly good, but it did have some supernatural monsters in it. His latest books, the DCI Robert Kett thrillers, have monsters in them too, although these monsters are very human, and all the more terrifying for it. In between these two books he has published 12 novels for children and teenagers under his full name, Alexander Gordon Smith - including the number one best-selling series Escape from Furnace, which is loved by millions of fans worldwide and which is soon to become a motion picture. He lives in Norwich with his wife and three young daughters.

a good entree in the series

Lots of twists and turns in the plot. It is kind of dark so some people may not like it. it concludes with the storyline that the author was pursuing in the first three books but leaves open the return of the evil Nemesis sometime in the future. it does speak to a more realistic detective series with an involvement of wife children and family and their perspective so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

very enjoyable

i am really enjoying this series. i love the interactions with his kids. i wish there weren't quite so many injuries, though. Makes it harder to believe for me.

Tim Bruce is marvelous! He makes these books better. His singing is great, too!

unexpected twists and a thrilling ending!

While the unfolding speed of this mystery (and its entire trilogy) seems inhuman, the emotional intensity captured me, restored the humanity of Kett and kept me intrigued until the final scene. The author has included three little girls all along, depicting the reality of chaos and laughter that goes along with parenting little ones, diminishing the horror of the crime scenes. Good triumphs over evil, a reminder that we all echo that movement!

Another great story

Don’t want to spoil it but didn’t give it a 5 star due to plot twist. 4.5. Maybe I’m just disappointed in the character, but didn’t seem believable.

the overly dramatic writing, idiotic ploy line, this is Bsd

I hated all of it and felt duped into buying it. Was this written with AI?

Too oblivious

Liked the story but could see the ending a mile away. I do not believe you could corrupt the police in this manner.

EXCELLENT but there's a BIG BUT

There is way way too much swearing in this story. It was filled with talent from both the author and the narrator. But the swearing was ridiculous. F... F... F... F...F...SH..SH..SH..SH.. over and over. and others. WHY??? There are people that don't want to hear that in their ear for 9 hours. 2 stars off for it.

Otherwise this is fantastic. But really, why trash your novel?
