About this listen

For over 20 years, Joanne Lee's mother kept the remains of three newborn babies hidden in her wardrobe. For the first time since exposing her mother's crimes, Joanne breaks her silence over her family's horrific ordeal.

Growing up, Joanne suffered at the hands of a violent boyfriend and controlling relatives, as her mother lapsed into a downward spiral following the breakup of her marriage. But the consequences of her mother's lifestyle turned out to be worse than Joanne could ever have imagined. She already knew about the baby buried in a shallow makeshift grave next to the family plot. But when Joanne came across a red plastic bin in her mother's wardrobe in 2009, she realised that the family home held an even more sinister secret. In Silent Sisters, Joanne will tell her story, detailing her struggle to understand her mother, to piece together the truth and give the four babies the proper burial they deserve.

The Narrator Makes the Story!!!

What a crazy life, this main character has lived! From her earliest memories, until the end of the book, is one mess after another!
I felt that the first two chapters were a little slow going, a bit boring, however, later on, in chapters to come, I was glad that I’d listened to those first two over again, and twice more, because those chapters allow insight, as to certain characters, whom remain throughout the story. I really enjoyed listening to this story, each night (took me about 4 nights of listening- not counting the nights that I fell asleep on the first two chapters, haha), and the narrator just makes it worth listening to! She has just the right amount of expression, and believable “voices,” for other main characters. I would recommend, listening to this selection.

Good read

it is a subject that will turn some readers off. Does a good job of presenting child neglect and abuse from someone who is mentally unfit.

Heart wenching.

I couldn't stop listening. literally finished the whole thing in a matter of about 12 hours...even woke up at 3 in the morning to care for my son and couldn't go back to sleep without listening more. My heart breaks for this precious family, but what a sweet break in the generational curse.

Silent Sisters

I have tried a couple different times to listen to books and I couldn’t do it I got bored.. This book was so good!! I listened to ALL of it. I actually enjoyed it. I actually could picture all that was going on in my minds eye and felt the struggle of the characters for having this non caring mother that cared about nothing but herself…

Riveting

Finished in two days, I couldn't stop listening! Whenever I thought it couldn't get more interesting it did! Mom should've been jailed. Although the last few chapters could've been left out it runs on about what everyone is doing now, the real story of what happened is really interesting

Loved this book

I love this book. It was well written and extremely interesting. I didn’t want to stop listening for a second. I highly recommend it. It was so good that I didn’t get distracted like I typically do with other books

What an amazing story of overcoming

The author had so many reasons to just follow in her mother’s footsteps. But she was better than that. This was an uplifting story even though it was also heartbreaking.
