About this listen

Under the cover of anonymity, Paul Saunders courageously tells his shockingly true story of how he and his stepsiblings were repeatedly abused by their mother and stepfather. It doesn’t make “easy” listening, but living through it wasn’t fun, either.

Paul’s father selfishly deserted him and his mother for another woman when Paul was just coming up to two years of age. Paul’s mother quickly entered into a new mixed race relationship, which in 1960’s Britain was very much frowned upon.

Consequently, Paul and his mother were instantly ostracized by their family and friends, and they were left to suffer/ witness dreadful physical abuse and neglect at the hands of Roy, an evil and very sick man.

The following is a harrowing story and may be - should be - as distressing to listen, as it is for me to write. However, the events that took place during the years 1963 to 1980 need to be recorded, for the sake of future generations of children to come and out of respect to all the children who have already suffered at the hands of demonic parents.

I especially dedicate this book to one hell of a brave boy, my stepbrother little Paul, who sadly died with a great deal of dignity at the young age of 19 from cancer, after years of horrific abuse. God bless him.

Torture By Human Hands

I thought the narrator underwent a substantial amount of mental and physical abuse. As watching what the step brother underwent was extreme torture. It is material that can be used as educational and enciteful. I really feel for the barrator and wahat he had to go thru. Horrible! Very good writing.

Heart wrenching story of abuse, racism and fear.

Sad story but it shows how fear will prevent children from reporting abuse. sharing an inside look at how racism and poverty affect children.

Expected more

I expected more of a detailed story and the narration seemed a bit boring. A little too short.

Heart wrenching

Literally made me sick to my stomach. As a mother I can’t even fathom how these children survived this nightmare. My heart goes out to you Paul, thank you for sharing your story!

Little Paul, the hero.

Every new parent, teacher, social worker and police officer should be required to study this book.
This is still happening today to children all over the world and in every socioeconomic group.
The courage and endurance of children should never be underestimated and Little Paul is an example of the subtle heroism of those who are being abused.
It is ordinary for abused children to suffer horrifically, and go to school with a smile on their faces and never say a word about it, but the truth is in their eyes.
I believe it was exposure to coal that caused the cancer.
And I believe that certain individuals should be put down like rabid dogs.

trigger-child abuse, domestic violence, racism

This is such a sad story! it is so sad that children had to deal with this abuse more than 25 years ago...and unfortunately some still deal with it today. The more stories being told, hopefully the more children being saved.

This story will forever leave a mark on my heart

Very well written and extremely sad to listen to this family reality of hell, I only hope they are all safe and have happiness…except for the monsters

An extremely hard listen

I purchased this book.... I am ashamed to say...out of morbid curiosity. I couldn't begin to imagine the horrific abuse that I would hear. My heart broke for the author, little Paul and his siblings. I am Furious at that diabolical man and his terror of these children. I can not imagine living the life they were subjected to. I hope one day that horrible man will get what's coming to him. In this life or the next.
