About this listen
In the summer of 1966, Christina Hardcastle - “Tiny” to her illustrious family - stands on the brink of a breathtaking future. Of the three Schuyler sisters, she’s the one raised to marry a man destined for leadership, and with her elegance and impeccable style, she presents a perfect camera-ready image in the dawning age of television politics. Together she and her husband, Frank, make the ultimate power couple: Intelligent, rich, and impossibly attractive. It seems nothing can stop Frank from rising to national office, and he’s got his sights set on a senate seat in November. But as the season gets underway at the family estate on Cape Cod, three unwelcome visitors appear in Tiny’s perfect life: Her volatile sister Pepper, an envelope containing incriminating photograph, and the intimidating figure of Frank’s cousin Vietnam-war hero Caspian, who knows more about Tiny’s rich inner life than anyone else. As she struggles to maintain the glossy façade on which the Hardcastle family’s ambitions are built, Tiny begins to suspect that Frank is hiding a reckless entanglement of his own...one that may unravel both her own ordered life and her husband’s promising career.

The Bahamas, 1941. Newly widowed Leonora “Lulu” Randolph arrives in Nassau to investigate the governor and his wife for a New York society magazine. After all, American readers have an insatiable appetite for news of the duke and duchess of Windsor, that glamorous couple whose love affair nearly brought the British monarchy to its knees five years earlier. In 1943, LSD is synthesized in Basel. Two decades later, a coterie of grad students at Harvard are gradually drawn into the inner circle of renowned psychologist and psychedelic drug enthusiast Timothy Leary. Fitzhugh Loney, a psychology PhD student, and his wife, Joanie, become entranced by the drug’s possibilities such that their “research” becomes less a matter of clinical trials and academic papers and instead turns into a freewheeling exploration of mind expansion, group dynamics, and communal living.

Entertaining beach read. The story gets a bit rediculous at times, and there are way too many coincidences to be believable, but the excellent narration kept me engaged in spite of the plot deficiencies.

The 1960's social set
If you are looking for action and adventure this is not the right book for you. It was more of a social study of the times, set in the 1960's from the viewpoint of a disenchanted society wife. The protagonist is born and bred to be a rising politician's wife, How she comes to realize other options and moves in her own direction is the basis for the story. I found it to be poignant, and absorbing, It was definitely worth both the credit and my time,

Oh come on haters! Has TV series written all over it!
Of course this story is silly. Did you think you were about to tackle East of Eden? Assuming a little fantasy and silly or just an easy listen is what you are going for this is great! I can just see these characters a little more developed into a tv show. Yes a cheesy one but a really good one. This author is actually a very good writer. I can’t wait to look into her other
writings.

3.5 Stars
2nd book in the Schuyler sisters series. A little slow in the beginning. The twist at the end was a surprise. I have to say that I was unprepared for it. I loved Caspian and of course her sister Pepper. So far, I enjoyed the 1st the most, "The Secret Life of Violet Grant".
