Publisher's summary

When Elizabeth drops her beloved only daughter off at college, she holds back the tears…fighting her worries about an empty nest with the thought of all the adventures that she and her husband Joel can now enjoy together. But as soon as they sit down to eat dinner that evening, Joel drops a bombshell. He wants a break.

Searching for an escape, Elizabeth discovers an apartment in Rome that is only available for three months rental to ‘an English woman of a certain age’. She reads on to find out the philosophy of Veronica, the 75-year-old owner, is that there is always joy to be found, however difficult the circumstances, and that it is an insult to the gift of life to not live it joyfully and fully – and that there is no better place to make this happen than Rome, the most beautiful city in the world.

Elizabeth accepts the challenge, and on arrival, finds that Veronica has a numbered list of challenges for her.

I'm looking forward to this series. This is my favorite author / narrator combo. The story as always is so well written, funny and thoughtful. I was sad when it ended.

I couldn’t stop listening

This one really got to me. After 24yr arms of marriage I just signed divorced papers two weeks ago. I loved the detail in this book about its location. I loved that this book could relate to real life so closely. It definitely stopped my breathe a couple times and I choked back a few tears. I love how Kerri can tie so much real life into her writing.

I want this experience!

I loved everything about this book... the characters, the setting, the pace, the arc of the story...but most of all I loved what it stirred in me. Dreams, desires, longings and the spark of a thought and vision for what could be possible in my own life. What if....? it's a big question. Kerry, the book (the whole series actually) is more than a great story, it's a catalyst for deeper self inquiry and will surely get a bold adventure on my calendar in the near future. Bravo!

My new favorite author!

I discovered Kerry’s work a few weeks ago & have really enjoyed 2 of her prior books. I started this one a few days ago & was mesmerized! I can’t wait to start the second one!

Easy story, and lovely narrator!!

Although a bit predictable, Kerry definitely speaks to my 59 year old self, and hit home with the theme of how we should live our lives to the fullest! “Die Living” is a great motto!

Can’t wait for the next one!

Another beautiful story by Kerry! While writing about every day life, she makes the story very relatable and goes above and beyond with her amazing writing. Like another reviewer said, this is my favorite author/narrator combo. Can’t wait to continue on with the series.

Throughly enjoyed!

Well-written, beautifully read. And now, I have a new favorite author!

If you are of a certain age, you will find yourself relating to the main character. If you have traveled to Rome (or other international destinations), you may find yourself wishing you were the proprietress!

The story unfolds gently, week by week. It leaves the reader waiting, wondering what next challenge awaits.

One more note: this is so very well read at the right tempo and accent. Enjoy!
