About this listen

When Elizabeth drops her beloved only daughter off at college, she holds back the tears…fighting her worries about an empty nest with the thought of all the adventures that she and her husband Joel can now enjoy together. But as soon as they sit down to eat dinner that evening, Joel drops a bombshell. He wants a break.

Searching for an escape, Elizabeth discovers an apartment in Rome that is only available for three months rental to ‘an English woman of a certain age’. She reads on to find out the philosophy of Veronica, the 75-year-old owner, is that there is always joy to be found, however difficult the circumstances, and that it is an insult to the gift of life to not live it joyfully and fully – and that there is no better place to make this happen than Rome, the most beautiful city in the world.

Elizabeth accepts the challenge, and on arrival, finds that Veronica has a numbered list of challenges for her.

This one really got to me. After 24yr arms of marriage I just signed divorced papers two weeks ago. I loved the detail in this book about its location. I loved that this book could relate to real life so closely. It definitely stopped my breathe a couple times and I choked back a few tears. I love how Kerri can tie so much real life into her writing.

I couldn’t stop listening

I discovered Kerry’s work a few weeks ago & have really enjoyed 2 of her prior books. I started this one a few days ago & was mesmerized! I can’t wait to start the second one!

I loved everything about this book... the characters, the setting, the pace, the arc of the story...but most of all I loved what it stirred in me. Dreams, desires, longings and the spark of a thought and vision for what could be possible in my own life. What if....? it's a big question. Kerry, the book (the whole series actually) is more than a great story, it's a catalyst for deeper self inquiry and will surely get a bold adventure on my calendar in the near future. Bravo!

I want this experience!

I've been pondering a trip to italy as i've never traveled out of the us. I'm a senior and worry but after reading this book I cannot wait to purchase my ticket. The story was captivating and so true to life.Especially if you're one that is on their own recently divorced or widowed. It gives you courage and understanding well.Consuming what sounds like the most beautiful place in magical to visit.
While reading, I looked up some of the things she did and they actually exist. So gives me a different, Different ideas. And I'm wait to do a Vespa.Something I would have never done.

Thank you for writing this book.Thank you for filling in all the blanks. Many of us may have in life.

Although a bit predictable, Kerry definitely speaks to my 59 year old self, and hit home with the theme of how we should live our lives to the fullest! “Die Living” is a great motto!

Easy story, and lovely narrator!!
