Publisher's summary

Enter darkness....

They have no choice. Chased by an evil prince, Achan, Vrell, and the Kingsguard knights flee into Darkness. They head north, for Tsaftown and Ice Island, where they must free an army that can help them fight for Er’Rets.

Darkness sickens Vrell. How long can she keep her secret without being caught? Achan already suspects her of lying. If she is not careful, he will suspect her of treason as well. She hopes he will let his suspicions go until they reach her home.

Achan wanted freedom, but this new journey has bound him more than ever. Sir Gavin’s claims are so far fetched. First, that there might only be one God, and second, that this God chose Achan to push back Darkness, the magnificent curse of Er’Rets. Him. Achan. Barely a man himself.

Each setback Darkness brings seems minor compared to the one choice only Achan can make. What will he choose?

Mimics our own rollercoaster Christian journey

We too make decisions based on feelings and get into some hair raising situations. God waits patiently for us to call on Him and make Him 1st in our lives. This cast of characters delightfully acted by Gillian Bronte Adams brings Jill Williamson's book to life. I love the creative interweaving between the Spirit world and the natural. My son read this book and enjoyed it very much saying "I wanted to strangle Sparrow!”. Thought provoking truths are skillfully arranged throughout this fantasy trilogy with satisfying suspense and humor scattered throughout. I very much recommend this book and Audible represented it well.

Beloved story is now an audiobook

I read this story years ago when the print version was recently released. It's fun to experience it again years later in audiobook format. I enjoy how Achan's and Vrell's characters grow and develop throughout the story. My only complaint is that the pacing of the reader was a bit slow for my taste; easily fixed by using the app to listen at a faster speed. I'm eagerly awaiting the final book of the series.

An intense and challenging journey!

The story deepens in Williamson’s second installment. Relationships are the key go to unity and discord. Will the lady’s stubbornness be her undoing or is she right? I can’t wait for the third book.

Captivating

A wonderful story of faith, growth, and love. It gets frustrating at times watching the stubbornness and struggles of the characters, but nothing is wasted and every step in their paths necessary. The narrator is exceptional and brings the characters to life. Well worth your time and highly recommended

Bible Abuse

This went from Christian metaphors to Bible quotes and concepts that are not compatible with my religious views.

Turned into Christian Allegory

I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it but the second has subsumed anything interesting into: will the silly mortal stop being silly and accept that his great, good god is great and good? I was hoping for a twist but have given up. It is disappointing because there really were some interesting aspects. If there is a way, though, to make an all benevolent, all powerful god character likable or entertaining this author didn't find it.
