About this listen

As president of the United States, Jack Ryan has faced many challenges, but none have been as personal as this, and never has he been this helpless in the face of evil in the latest entry in Tom Clancy's number one New York Times best-selling series.

Father Pat West, SJ, was a buddy of the young Jack Ryan when they were both undergraduates at Boston College. Father West left a comfortable job in the philosophy department at Georgetown to work with the poor in Indonesia. Now, he's been arrested and accused of blasphemy against Islam.

President Ryan is desperate to rescue his old friend, but he can't move officially against the Indonesians. Instead, he relies on the Campus team to find out who is framing the priest.

There's one other twist to the story. President Ryan discovers a text on his private cell phone from the priest warning about a coming attack against America....

Everything about this book reminds me of how great a series this is. My personal opinion is that some of the more recent works have been lacking in story and depth, but not this one. The characters, tech and action are all there and reminiscent of some of the big titles. This book put the Clancy series back at the top of my wish list, and I highly recommend.

The essence of Clancy is back

I always look forward to the next book in the series. I love it that Tom Clancy and his family have enabled Jack Ryan to live on, long after Clancy is no longer with us. This book keeps up the standard of storytelling that I've come to expect.

A great series just keeps on going.

Out of all the Jack Ryan books this is one of my top 3 favs!

wow

Really enjoyed Clark, Ding, and others being prominently featured. I got mixed up on the order of the books and realized that Jack Jr. appeared to become the dominant figure - while he is an interesting character, the others add a lot to the stories. I would much rather read a story on “the team”.

Thrilling Story

Mark Cameron did an excellent job as author and Scott Brick is always excellent as narrator.

Another Exciting Ryan Novel

Solid novel in the Clancy spirit
Medical detail very accurate
Scott Brick does a great job as usual

Fast paced and tech accurate

the third act felt a bit rushed but a quality addition to the series. I guess biting a computer virus instead of terrorist cells all around America makes for a Less climactic ending.

good but lacking Clancy depth

Back when the oval office was occupied by men of (mostly) virtue, I suppose this would be just a run of the mill fantasy. I can easily imagine an amp'd up prototype of HW Bush, Ike, or - maybe a real life - Teddy in the role. But now, the obviously Republican Jack Ryan revealed by Marc Cameron just makes me feel nostalgic and sullen.

Nevertheless, it feels so good to read about a fictional president who's intentions are noble and actions constrained by competence and fact - I can literally suspend disbelief. I love it.

I just wish the author used a tiny little bit of nuance for his political foil. It's a little out of date.

Bittersweet, little out of date, and still great

I don't recall how many books there are in the Jack Ryan(s) series, but you cannot go wrong with these. Scott Brick again does a masterful job telling the story that has many dramatic events. Excitement all the way through. Do not miss this one.

Another win for Jack Ryan

IN my humble opinion, this was the best Clancy novel since TC himself stopped writing them.

Excellent.
