About this listen

Marine officer. CIA analyst. President. Jack Ryan has devoted his life to protecting the United States. What if this time, he can't? President Ryan and the Campus return in this entry in Tom Clancy's number-one New York Times best-selling series.

Freedom may have finally arrived in Iran. As protests break out across the country, the media rejoices over the so-called Persian Spring. Western leaders are ecstatic. Members of Congress and the Cabinet clamor to back the rebels. Only President Jack Ryan remains wary.

Meanwhile, he has plenty to handle at home. A deadly strain of flu is ravaging the United States as spring floods decimate the Southeast. An unethical senator wants to bring down the Ryan presidency and is willing to lean on fabricated bot-planted stories to do it.

But the scariest story is the most closely guarded one. Two Russian nuclear missiles have been hijacked. The Campus gets their first break when Jack Junior connects with a rogue Russian intelligence officer in Afghanistan - only to be abducted soon after arriving. John Clark and the rest of the Campus team race to track the missiles and rescue their colleague.

As sensationalized stories spin out of control and the stolen missiles remain out of reach, President Ryan's toughest challenge emerges: How do you meet an enemy head on, when he won't even show you his face?

Clancy's legacy continues.

The new author to take over from the late Tom Clancy does a fine job, the narration is also excellent. A compelling storyline, with an idea that is unlikely, and yet possible. 10/10.

SOLID CLANCY TALE, BUT LACKING...

I enjoyed this work, but I was a little bit disappointed in not having more President Ryan putting that lib Senator in her place at the end. Telling of story was fine, but I was disappointed with Less Clark and Company. Perhaps a story with Ryan, Jr. dealing with more PTSD would be good - glossed over a lot in the story. Strong B+ - Not quite A- work. Thanks!

Excellent story and Performance

A well written story as you might expect from a Tom Clancy novel. The audible book brought the characters to life and made for an entertaining and at some points tense experience. If you like this genre of books, keep put this one on your list.

Fun listening

This was a fun listen. The narrator is amazing. My only suggestion is that ihe bounce the pronunciation of the Russian words off of a native Russian speaker. He’s got the accents down but the pronunciations are a bit off

Great Read

I continue to enjoy following Jack and Jack Jr.

Great narration and plot. I have followed him since the 1980’s.

Another great Jack Ryan adventure

Tom Clancy Oath of Office is the latest book in the #1 New York Times Best-Selling Jack Ryan series of Thrillers and I am very glad to report that Marc Cameron did a fantastic job writing the new adventure and that Scott Brick delivers another perfect performance.

As you might know, if you follow my reviews, I hate spoilers so, without me giving any of the key plot points away, I will tell you that Jack Ryan is back for another heart stopping adventure! Oh, yeah, and it’s not only Jack, since we have the entire Campus team back in action. The story is great and the plot is strong and very well thought out.

The plot is filled with twists and turns, the action moves at breakneck speeds from the United States to Iran, from Portugal to Russia and after that from Cameroon to Afghanistan and so on.

The story is so good and so brilliantly written that I found myself keeping my breath from time to time… Near the end are some explosive moments, filled with non stop action that will keep you on the edge of your seat… There are guns, terrorists, gadgets, hackers, espionage, tech details about weapons, aircrafts and computers, there are spies, hand to hand combat, hostage rescue missions, helicopters, planes, boats, bombs, politics and lots of fast paced drama…

Beware, once you start reading, you might not want to stop!

Scott Brick is one of the best narrators out there, in an industry full of talented artists, and his contribution to this series makes it even more immersive and highly enjoyable!

The amazing Scott Brick returns once more to the Jack Ryan universe and brings to life old friends. He reads, he acts, he uses his accents in order to help the listener differentiate between the vast variety of characters of different nationalities. At the same time it’s clear that he enjoys the story and has a good time delivering another Stellar performance. Scott changes with ease between President Ryan, Jack Jr., John Clark, Ding, a Russian spy, a sadistic Iranian assassin and many others.

If you are a Tom Clancy / Jack Ryan fan, or just prefer thrillers and espionage, you will absolutely love Tom Clancy Oath of Office. Mr. Cameron is on his second Jack Ryan book, after he took over from the talented Mark Greaney in 2017, but he manages to deliver a great Jack Ryan adventure in the style of its original creator...

Expected plot, characters held my interest

The overall story arc falls in line with the rest of the series. The usual levels of conspiracy, political subterfuge, international incidents and the like. Not revolutionary, but entertaining enough.

That said, where this entry stands out is building interest in a lot more characters within the Ryanverse, as well as setting up future entries. The end of Ryan's presidency is mentioned for the first time. Jack Jr is still the emotionally conflicted badass with a turbulent love life, but now may have multiple paths to pursue in that regard. However, so may the returning Ysabel. The interaction between Dovzhenko and Jr is reminiscent of the interaction between Sr and Golovko, and it feels like we haven't seen the last of him. Gary Montgomery and Lisanne Robertson become more than just background characters. We even get an Adam Yao cameo. And all the usual staples: wit and wisdom from Ding and Clark, sarcasm from Midas, calming insight from Mary Pat, reality checks from Arnie, support from Cathy. It left me wanting to know what the future holds for each character and how this next era within the Ryanverse will develop.

Surprisingly Good :-)

After having read some of the quite many sceptic reviews I was very hesitant to spend my valuable credits on this title and thought I may have read my last Ryan story. As I started listening I remained in doubt. Scott Brick's familiar voice however calmed my fear and I gave it the benefit of the doubt. And to my great relief I am very glad I did. Marc's story is intriguing introducing the listener to many characters and stories and you start wondering which story is the key one, and how they all tie together (if at all...?). The pace is good and Scott's story telling skills prevents you from pausing. Marc is not using as many techno terms as Mark Greaney, or the late master Clancy himself, but that doesn't impact the story.
I am also please that Marc weaved in characters from the stories published by, the anything but good (please keep him off the Ryan series permanently), Grant Blackwood, so that they get a meaningful purpose going forward.
As it is likely that Mark Greaney will focus on his own fantastic, and highly recommended Grayman series, and doubtfully will write another Ryan story, I am very comfortable with Marc Cameron at the keyboard.
Enjoy!
