About this listen

On a busy Washington morning, the stately calm of the White House is shattered in a deadly terrorist attack on the executive mansion. The president is evacuated to an underground bunker, but not before nearly 100 hostages are taken.

Mitch Rapp, the CIA’s top counterterrorism operative, is sent in to take control of the crisis and determines that the president is not as safe as Washington’s power elite had thought. Indeed, Rapp has made a chilling discovery that could rock Washington to its core: someone within his own government wants his rescue attempt to fail.

Hear Mitch Rapp, the CIA's top operative, battle global terrorism in more of Vince Flynn's political thrillers.©1999 Vince Flynn (P)2011 Simon & Schuster

Critic reviews

"Endless intrigue... Flynn mixes in a spicy broth of brutal terrorists, heroic commandos, and enough secret-agent hijinks to keep the confrontation bubbling until its flag-raising end." ( Publishers Weekly)
" Transfer of Power emerges in its sense of authenticity, depth of research, and almost seamless dramatic scenario....One of Flynn's finest skills as an up-and-coming young master of the genre of political thrillers is his ability to create a cast of compelling characters." ( Bookpage)

The first Mitch Rapp series novel written!

Vince Flynn wrote Term Limits and self published it in 1997 after being turned down again and again by publishers. He never had to worry about publishers acceptance again!. The protagonist of Term Limits was us congressman Michael O'Rourke.

Transfer of Power, published in 1999, is the first novel written in the great Mitch Rapp series, but is Book 3 in Mitch Rapp's chronology. It begins what is doubtless the greatest espionage thriller series ever written. Just get the audiobook!

Term Limits and the first three Mitch Rapp novels (#3, 4, and 5 in the Rapp series) are the only of Vince Flynn's audiobooks not narrated by the wonderful George Guidall. All 4 of those books suffer from less than outstanding narration.

Criticisn of Narrator Not Justified

I found both the story and the narration to be excellent and do not understand the basis for the criticism of the narration.

completely enjoyed

I started the first couple of books close to the end of this series so I went back and started from the top. with the first two books having been written sometime after this one it was a good transition but I did miss Stan, and no mention of Greta. the book itself was great, while I do enjoy Guidall reading better, once I was concentrating on story it wasn't that much of a distraction.

Good book, poor voce acting

The voice actor was a bit annoying, but a very good book. Vince Flynn was a great suspense writer.

Fantastic story. Bad narration.

The story in this book was amazing. It was very easy to follow, and maintained my interest. The performance left some to be desired. Pronunciation was a distinct issue.

2nd Flynn Book - Great for Keeping Your Attention

Any additional comments?

Flynn writes well told stories that seem plausible. I'm driving 13 hour round trips on the weekends to our vacation home, and these books keep me awake. My only complaint is, as with so many, a large amount of profanity.

Pretty good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It keeps you interested.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It had its moments where you get a bit nervous.

What about Nick Sullivan’s performance did you like?

He was able to make the voices sound like separate people for the most part. Kings voice was most annoying but it really fit the character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The parts where the terrorist were just cold blooded killing hostages...

Any additional comments?

The ending seemed a bit lack luster....but it was ok.
