spoiled by narration

I didn't buy this for about a year due to poor ratings on the narrator, but the story didn't rate much higher, so I eventually went ahead.

luckily, this is 1 of my favourites by this author so I managed to enjoy it despite the extremely annoying narrator. so why the 2☆ for narration? he didn't make any actual mistakes or read with a wooden voice (although I think the current audible automated narration couldn't be worse than this, despite the effort he made to distinguish the character voices - wasted imo - shudder), just made it sound like a melodrama - which isn't how I read this 1 at all (for a Mills&Boon I find it pretty pragmatic, when I read it myself; and not particularly misogynistic). and at least he didn't spoil the beautiful setting - which may be why I like this 1 so much.

overall it worked OK as a sleep story, which is what I purchased it for (although I had a lot of spare credits and wasn't in the mood for anything else on my wish list; obviously). if you like this book then you could consider buying the audio but make sure you keep your expectations realistic (you'll probably end up resenting paying for it - would be better if it were free - and even then you'd probably grit your teeth a lot)
