About this listen

This action packed sequel to Tyrant: The Rise follows the surviving victims of a violent raid on their southern Illinois homestead to their trek north where their intentions are set on liberating prisoners of a FEMA and UN-controlled facility located on Goose Island, in Chicago, and overseen by a brutal dictator, whose goals are calculated and evil.

The question is, will they reach their destination, or will they succumb to the harshness of a land without civil order? What became of General John James and Admiral Belt McKanty? Did they find their destination, and did Lieutenant Colonel Charles Buchanan rally enough support to overcome the enemies of liberty?

This mind-gripping novel will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering who is strong enough to survive, and do morals in a lawless America matter where tyranny is running rampant?

Took forever to get good, but did!!!

After the author gave me this copy I bought book 1 and listened to it to familiarize myself with the story line. Book 1 was slow to get going and was decent, I stuck it out and rolled in to book 2. This book started off slow with a narrator thats board line acceptable. Then it got good for the last 4 hours of the book. I just checked for book 3 and its not available yet. I would say overall it was worth the time to listen to it and I would have been fine spending credits on this series. Some of the things that annoyed me was the narrator spelling out HMMWV instead of saying humvee. Little things like that and not being familiar with military terms was obvious. I think the author did a better job of keeping everything accurate and the lingo right but the narrator dropped the ball on his homework. I look forward to the next one and see how it turns out.

A solid post apocalyptic story

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a great post apocalyptic story of survival. I didn't read/listen to the first book but that didn't seem to really hinder my enjoyment of this book. Granted, it only alludes to the start of the fall of civilization, but that isn't unexpected as this is book 2. The narration was good and I felt it fit the book.

Great story loved it

The cadence of the narrator was... different, robotic sometimes. Loved the story though, worth it!

How America could end!

The term Main Core started out as a government RFID program to help identify soldiers. In times of tyranny it came to be the government blacklist of tens of thousands of patriotic citizens. Surviving patriots of the Southern Illinois raid by U.N. Forces have gathered together, deciding to make their own raid on a U.N. held prisoner camp. Goose Island, on the outskirts of Chicago was a FEMA stronghold where captured patriots were shipped and slaughtered for the “common good”. As our boys traveled they liberated and/or acquired additional survivors and equipment until their ranks swelled to several thousand. As their presence was made known they were contacted by two surviving members of the U.S. Joint Chiefs requesting that they join ranks to take back America. In the meantime, U.N. Forces tighten the noose on U.S. Forces by bringing new technology weapons to bear. The North Koreans had developed Direct Energy Weapons or DEWYS, to aid in the destruction and conquest of America. The backup plan, should the U.N. Iranian General fail to eliminate the resistance, was Operation Black State; a weaponized form of the Black Plague pandemic, which killed upwards of 200 million people in the 13th century. As the simmering pot comes to a boil; will our group of patriots make it to Chicago, will they still be around to join ranks with the Joint Chiefs forces, and will the North Koreans have any more technological surprises up their sleeve? Stay tuned; it’s an exciting ride! This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.`

GREAT POST-APOCALYPTIC TALE OF SURVIVAL

This is the first book in the series I've listened to and reviewed, but with that said I think it was fantastic!! Great story line (spine-tingling madness!), like the characters and story line, great narration as well. I'm definitely interested in reading/listening to more in the series, I need to know how it all turns out! :) Really scary parallels in today's society. Would definitely recommend it!! :)

Not a pleasant view of a possible future

This is book 2 of the series Tyrant. It’s a story of survival in a harsh new reality it was written a few years ago and I jumped at the chance to listen to the audio version of a series I enjoyed. I was not disappointed. The narrator is very good and adds a lot to the drama with pauses at the stress points to build tension. I was listening so intently that I did another 15 on the elliptical without realizing it

The story starts where we pick up in America. Now a failed state and overrun with UN “ helpers” that’s sole goal is to rape and pillage the nation of its resources. The people are in hiding and very much like refugees in their nation. They do fight back starting in book 1 and it really heats up in book two. I really enjoyed book 2of the series. The audio version adds a lots and if you like apocalyptic fiction give this series a listen

I was given the book by the author to review and the opinions are mine alone and honest.

Phenomenal follow up to a gripping story!

Love this series! I hope it never stops.
Listen to the first one first. Then you will be itching for this brilliant sequel.

I can’t say enough good about it! First the collapse then North Korea gets in on the action!

Interesting Speculative Fiction

Imagine a United States where the government is the enemy, foreign powers have invaded and patriots have formed a resistance; throw in a conservative political agenda with 2nd amendment leanings and you have Tyrant.

Speculating on how America falls and the new world order sucks isn't a new thing. Although, current political climates make this much more terrifying and probable than previously.

The story telling reminded me of Game of Thrones where we jump points of view every chapter, and sometime mid-chapter. This made it hard for me to really get involved in the story as we never really get to know any one character well. As some reviewers have said, there is a lot of military jargon, but that didn't bother me much. It fit with the story.

The political leanings of the author are quite evident in the story, without evening reading between the lines. I think this is why I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

I was enjoying the narrator. Some reviewers didn't seem to like his delivery but I found nothing wrong with his intonations or his characterizations.

I would recommend this title to anyone who likes stories about survivalists rising up and defending freedom.

Still not hooked

This is a good series but it’s not amazing. I’m not sure why. It has action, a tiny bit of a love triangle, killers, cannibals, a possible biological weapon..... all the things I love in my SHTF books. I just haven’t been drawn in where I’m eager to know what comes next. I will continue the series because I am a tiny bit vested in a couple of the characters but a lot of them are forgotten from one chapter to the next. I want to love it, I just like it enough.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the publisher/author but voluntarily give my honest review.
