About this listen
The high school play is in two months and senior Wren Barlow just became the director. Wren still isn't over the fact that she got stiffed as a stagehand instead of the lead role that she totally deserved. Now she is in charge of rehearsals, costumes, navigating around cast member hookups, and managing the real-life drama at home.
The principal counts on her to succeed because tickets have been sold and the money has been spent. But when he drops a gorgeous bad boy on her and wants him to help the play for extra credit, she falls hard for someone she knows she can't date. With everything spinning out of control, the mysterious and secretive detention king named Derek has a few tricks up his sleeve and wants to help - too bad Wren is scared to give him a chance to prove himself.

Ex-cop turned private investigator Robert Hoskins always enjoyed the stories his grandmother had told him as a child, stories of the Dryad that lived in the tree, the Faeries in the garden, and the magical world that was created in his imagination. He always enjoyed them; he just never thought that they were true. Robert's childhood world of magic becomes real when a chance encounter with a local casino mob boss introduces him to the world he was born into, the world that was hidden from him, the world of the Fae.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Loved it.
I loved this novel. It was clean (apart from kissing), and the overall story was wholesome. There was a warm connection between Wren and Derek and when there was turmoil in their relationship, I felt their pain. When they re-united, I felt joy. That's because their characters and their romance were well-developed even with a novella length word count.
I was so excited to discover this author that I looked to see what else was available on Audible. Just one other story. I’ll devour that, but I hope there will be more soon.
I recommend this story for a light and romantic listening experience.
I found this author because of a search for narrator Stacey Glemboski. Ms. Glemboski was narration perfection as usual. Loved it.

I recommend this book to all the YA lovers. Sometimes you just need a fun love story. A story where you get to know the characters and can see the ending but still love the journey it takes for the characters to get there.

Sweet high school theater romance
This book was just a treat, so sweet and vulnerable and real. It's fairly short, but the author manages to pack in a lot of drama and characterization. Wren wouldn't be my best friend in highschooland, but it was so fun to watch her slightly-snarky-teen-apathetic self wake up to life. And, of course, the hot guy she's into! The theater backdrop was wonderful, too--enough details but not so much it bogged the story down. I really, really loved the ending. It was pretty much the perfect ending to this story!
I loved the narration, too--Stacey Glemboski is one of the rare narrators that I find books and read them just because she's read them. She's excellent with characters, emotions, and voices, and this book certainly doesn't disappoint!
I'd highly recommend this for a fun, light, happy read.

Short and weet
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
Really enjoyed this book. Wished it was longer and that there was a bit more story at the end. Or maybe another 15 minutes in an epilogue.
The story is great, loved Dereck and the narrator did a great job. I would listen/read other books by this author.

What made the experience of listening to Understudy the most enjoyable?
the storyline was good & the narrator was pleasant to listen to.
Which character – as performed by Stacey Glemboski – was your favorite?
Derek & Wren
Any additional comments?
“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”
This book is a cute first love type of book, which is what I was expecting, although the characters were immature (including the adults) I still found the storyline good...until the end. There was such a huge build up as to what happened to Derek & as to why he couldn't tell Wren anything...that when he finally does tell her, its a huge let down...there was so much potential with that part that I was really disappointed in the way the author chose to end it.
overall, a good high school/first love type of book. :)

I'm a bit confused...THIS BOOK HAS AN AMAZING & UNIQUE STORYLINE!! I don't know if I'm missing parts of the book, if it didn't all download or if there was SO MUCH skipped that it took so much away from the book!! I finished it feeling like I was missing SO MUCH!! The Narrator is the only reason I'm giving it the score I am!! 2.5 stars is for the book but I rounded it up to 3! I REALLY HOPE I'M MISSING SOME OF THE BOOK & I CAN LISTEN TO IT AGAIN & FIX THE RATING!! CAUSE I PROMISE YOU THIS BOOK HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

your too fat: favorite line
I was gifted this audio ARC from the author/Narrator for a honest and unbiased review
Cheyanne Young composed an unique plot that was compiled with lots of care to her characters
Stacey Glemboski once again didn't fail in giving a spectacular job with the inflection of the voices.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind a touch of cursing throughout the book.
