About this listen

Your ex-wife didn’t leave you because of me. She didn’t abandon her little girl because of a couple of love notes in your jeans pocket. She left because she’s twisted, and she wanted to punish you. And she’s not finished yet. You have to believe me. If you don’t, there’s no knowing what she’ll do next…

Becoming a stepmother is the best thing that ever happened to me. My favorite part of every day is picking Charlie up from school, watching her little rucksack bounce behind her as she skips over for a hug. I love the feel of those thin freckled arms around my waist. After a few rocky months of panic attacks when her mother deserted her, Charlie is flourishing. But the day Charlie’s mother Bronwyn returns without warning—showering Charlie with gifts and making promises she can’t keep—fear ripples through me.

When I raise my concerns, no one wants to listen. I know I sound like the jealous new wife, but nothing is more important to me than Charlie’s safety. Bronwyn and I have history. We both have dark secrets in our past, and I know the dangerous lengths she will go to get what she wants.

But Bronwyn doesn’t know me as well as I know her.

She doesn’t know just how far I will go to protect that little girl….

Definitely kept me on my toes!

A must read! The narrator definitely makes the book even better. Without a good narrator, the book just isn’t the same

Disappointing

I've enjoyed other Natalie Barelli's works before but this wasn't one of them.

Laura and Jack are engaged to me married. Laura the protagonist is not very bright and in fact she is irritating. Jack is not that swift either.
They live together with Jack's little daughter, who Laura adores and treats as if she is her own and hopes to become her stepmother.
Enter Jack's estranged wife who is returning from Europe supposedly to finalize her divorce with Jack and that's when the shenanigans begin.
There were few twists and those that came were predictable.
The story was told 1st person via Laura but probably shouldn't have been.
The narraton was excellent but couldnt saved this one. It wasn't for me.

Underwhelming

I didn’t like how the main character said the same exact things over and over, it was hard for me to not notice or get annoyed lol also, I didn’t like that she was such a pushover. Which is why I was waiting for an ultimate twist of bad assness from her part but nothing. I liked the story though. It would’ve been perfect with a few more suspenseful twists.

I loved this story! I didn’t want it to end! It sure did trick me along the way.

The pandering of the protagonist is intolerable!

Laura is a doormat! All I wanted to do was scream at her to stop being so tolerant of her weak husband, who doesn't defend her, or her daughter.

I think the characters' personalities were intended to make the story what it is, but, this book was too frustrating to finish. I returned it.

Always Trust Your Instincts

I really enjoyed this story. And just when I thought I had it all figured out, surprise! Then I would think oh, ok that is what is happening, but nope.. surprise! The parts that told who had the child’s best interests at heart were my favorites.

You won’t be disappointed, so download!!

I loved this

I don’t want to spoil the story so instead I’ll say it was a great book if you like to stay on your toes about what happens next. I thought the problem was one person then a different and then OMG you have no idea just how bad the real person is . Loved it 😊

Good-ish

Not the authors best work. Very novice psychological thriller but decent enough to finish. Barelli's other works are better!
