About this listen

Ugene and the other test subjects escaped Paragon. They thought they were finally safe. But the battle for freedom is far from over.

Now, Ugene must fight to liberate the city from the clutches of the oppressive government before the rogue group, the Protectorate, launches their own dangerous attack. But digging into the Directorate’s corruption could be even deadlier than escaping Paragon.

As the clock ticks down, it’s more than just his own life on the line.

It’s time for the deception to end. And it’s time for everyone to finally learn that being Powerless isn’t weakness.

Unique is the thrilling sequel in this YA dystopian sci-fi Ordinary series. If you like fast-paced action, dynamic characters, and ongoing mystery, then you’ll love Starr Z. Davies’ series sequel.

Non- stop actop

I couldn’t stop listening to the storyline. I had to know what was happening next. I was so intrigued with more of the story and more immersed in it than the first one. I was sort of having a hard time keeping the non-main characters straight, but that didn’t matter to me. Great story, great ending. Loved it.

Who do you trust?

The troubles were not over after the escape from Paragon. The uprising of the Protectorate is beginning, but can they be trusted either?

Starr Z. Davies kept the action and emotions running at full tilt in this second book in the Powers series. A fantastic story that I didn’t want to put down.

I also enjoyed Nathaniel Asher’s performance. His timing and pacing were great, and he certainly kept me engaged in everything that was going on.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Freedom... a dangerous and complex road

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated once again by Nathaniel Ascher, whose masterful performance truly captures the darker and harrowing path Ugene and his fellow survivors may have escaped the clutches of Paragon and have found a temporary sanctuary with the Protectorate... but that doesn't mean they are not still trapped in a web of destructive lies. For Ugene... freeing those being oppressed by the Directorate take him not only down a personal journey of discovering his place in society but confronting the cruel and abusive man determined to rule no matter the cost of innocent lives that may come because of it. Beautiful, intense, thought provoking and wonderfully memorable, Unique is a can't miss sequel to read. Highly recommended.

Even better than the first book.

I really like the narrator. He brought the story to life. This part of the story was more exciting and attention grabbing than the first. Once Ugene and his remaining friends escape from Paragon they land in the hands of the Protectorate. The Protectorate has some similarities to the Directorate and it's up to Ugene to use his brain power to figure out how to liberate his city from the subjugation imposed by the Directorate while trying to figure out if he can trust the Protectorate to truly help with the liberation effort. The battle for freedom takes it's toll in even more of Ugene's friends. There are still some threads that need to be tied up at the end of this part of the story and will hopefully be addressed in the last installment of the story.

UNIQUE IS GREAT, FUNNY, DRAMATIC AND ENJOYABLE.

THE STORYLINE IS GREAT AND EASY TO FOLLOW. ACCEPTABLE FOR TEENS AND OLDER LISTENERS.

HAS A FRENCH REVOLUTION FEEL THAT CAN BE A STAND ALONE STORY BUT HAS A CLIFF HANGER FEEL. FANTASY, ADVENTURE, INTRIGUING POST APOCALYPTIC THRILLER.

THE NARRATOR, NATHANIEL ASCHER IS GREAT AND EASY TO FOLLOW.

A Step Up, Even From Book One

I received a copy of this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! Certainly not to be read without reading Ordinary first, Unique continues Ugene's journey in standing up to Paragon Diagnostics. The narration of this book was great. I believe that the reader had more expression and passion in this book than in the prior one, which was a pleasant surprise. The storyline itself has a number of twists that keeps things interesting even though the main story arc itself was a bit predictable overall, in that it resembled that of some other books in the YA Dystopian genre. That said, the details, characters, and setting really make Unique... well, Unique. I had previously read this book, and listening to it in audiobook format, I actually found new insights into the characters, which was a pleasant surprise. Being able to reread books and take away something new each time is, in my opinion, one sign of a great book. Most importantly, this book brings a satisfying conclusion to the adventure that started in Ordinary.

Better and better!

My son and I have really been enjoying this series together! This is the second book in the series and picks up where the first left off. The characters are still fighting to secure their freedom and this book kept us gripping our seats until the end. It was easy to follow the story, even for my 11 year old, he loved it and it really got his brain thinking about alternate worlds and inspired a lot of questions.

Freedom's Road Isn't Easy

This second book in the series was as good as the first book. Ugene continues to be a powerhouse in spite of the fact that he doesn't have any special powers. This book delves into more of the world outside of Paragon. It continues to be fast paced and entertaining. I can't wait to find out what happens next. I recommend this series for those who love this genre. Nathaniel Ascher's narration continues to be good. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
