About this listen

Katie LeClair has finally settled down as the new doctor in Baxter, Michigan. After years of moving, schooling, and training, she wants nothing more than to find a place she can call home, and a small town outside of Ann Arbor seems perfect.

Katie quickly gets to work in building a life for herself in Baxter, and beyond reviving her love life, she also finds a pair of business partners in a team of father and son family practitioners. But that idyllic dream is immediately shattered when one of her patients is found dead. That wouldn't be the worst thing, except the death is ruled a suicide, and as evidence has it, the suicide was a result of the medication Katie had prescribed. But she doesn't remember writing it.

When a closer investigation reveals it was murder, Katie is catapulted into an off-the-books investigation that leads her down a dark path of past secrets. But someone is willing to kill to keep part of the town's history in the shadows, and Katie must race to find out who before it's too late.

While the overall story wasn’t “bad” it wasn’t “good” either. Super repetitive in tone and the reader is flooded with sooooo many characters. It’s a small town and I think we meet every single person. The numerous characters makes everything feel jumbled. The ending was another miss in my opinion. I thought the narrator took a breathe and then realized it was over. Not a huge fan!

Too many characters, and a flop of an ending

although one could predict both the romance and that all things were going to end up happy right from the start, it was still a good distraction from the election stress. kind of a Nancy Drew for grown ups.

cute predictable and satisfying in uncertain times

Started out hopeful - a doctor and a murder mystery. Sounds good, right? Except that by the first hospital encounter I was rolling my eyes. As an ER nurse this book read like a lame episode of any hospital show and many times I was cringing my way through the medical scenarios (like when the bradicardic patient sudden is pronounced dead, like when the nurse asks if she should push the atropine... if you've ever met an ICU nurse they can run a code better than ANY doctor). The story wasn't bad over all but I felt like I was being forcefed so much fluff in between times.

Drawn out story but I wasn't left wanting more

Good book good story a very light mystery. I usually love more blood and guts but still very good.

great

There were some good surprises in this story. I thought the main character, Katie, was not believable on a few levels. Also, the narrator sounded a bit juvenile making it hard for me to think of it as much more than a Nancy Drew novel.

Cute Mystery

Good story. Bad reader. Too many errors to list all, but timing issues and character differentiation will make you have to back up to understand who said what.

Reader lets the author down.

Hard to stay with this. Basic story I have seen too many times before I hoped for more connection to the Michigan location. Characters were wooden and not involving

Barely OK. Nothing special here

Idk if it was the narrator or what but the book took forever. Felt like it dragged. I mean it was a decent story but was just ehh so so. Ya know? If you love a could mystery then you know what I mean. I was curious enough to finish it but wasn’t edge of my seat can’t put down for a second good

Twists and turns but could be a bit more exciting
