Publisher's summary

Charlotte Graham is at the center of the most famous kidnapping in Chicago history.

The FBI and local cops found her two abductors, killed them, and rescued her, but it took four long years. The fact that she was found just three miles from her home, had been there the entire time, haunts them. She’s since changed her identity, found a profession she loves, and rebuilt her life.

She’s never said a word — to the cops, to her doctors, to her family — about those four years.

A family legacy has brought her back to Chicago, where a reporter is writing a book about the kidnapping. Her options are limited: Either hope the reporter doesn’t uncover the full truth, or break her silence about what happened. And her silence is what has protected her family for years.

Bryce Bishop doesn’t know Charlotte’s past; he only knows she has coins to sell from her grandfather’s estate — and that the FBI director in Chicago made the introduction. The more he gets to know Charlotte, the more interested he becomes, an interest encouraged by those closest to her. But she’s decided she is single for life, she struggles with her faith, and she’s willing to forgo a huge inheritance to keep her privacy. She’s not giving him much of an opening to work with.

Charlotte wants to trust him. She needs to tell him what happened. Because a crime the cops thought was solved has only opened another chapter…

Very captivating story

Wonderfully written and narrated. Had trouble not thinking about the book when I wasn't listening. As usual, Dee Henderson has riveted another story into my memory! Great read!!

Another great book by Ms. Henderson

I have listened to and read the O' Malley series several times and I am used to the narrator for the series. Initially, I wasn't sure about the narrator for this book, but he turned out to be pretty good. So far, I have not found a Dee Henderson book that has disappointed, and this one was a great piece of work!

Maybe Henderson's best book ever!

Would you listen to Unspoken again? Why?

I've already listened to the book three times and am still not tired of it! Though the story is unlikely in parts (Spoiler alert!: Like the fact that she and Bryce marry simply b/c of the trust), the story actually makes it seem plausible. Even though the book leaves a lot of things unanswered, the ending is very satisfying. It answered everything that needed to be answered without tying up every single question with a bow, making it more realistic.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes! The book kept me on the edge of my seat just as Charlotte kept Bryce guessing with every turn.

Great Story

Wonderful story of emotional struggle, personal battles, and authentic love. This was my first Dee Henderson book but it won’t be my last.

Not her best but had to be told

I liked that there were references to O'Malley's and Ann Silver and Paul Falcone. I believe all these characters were in the next book. Since I've listened to these out of order, this book helped make sense of the later ones.
I didn't like Charlotte's paralyzed fear. It didn't make sense that she'd travel and shop but be paralyzed by this fear.

Mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings about this book. I love most of Dee Henderson's books. However, this one got on my last nerve with all the hand wringing over "how will we ever get rid of (donate) all these billions of dollars." That part got tiresome. However, there was some great intrigue in the story and some enjoyable characters and a Christian message sprinkled in here and there. The performance was very good for most of the characters. I did not like the voice for Paul though he was not a main character.
