Story
The Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, put a horrific closing note on a norm-shattering presidency, as the twice-impeached Donald Trump rode a wave of denial and resentment out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and crashed back at Mar-a-Lago—seemingly wounded, seemingly done. But he wasn’t. And what, exactly, was he building in there? Meridith McGraw vividly chronicles the incredible period of Trump’s exile in South Florida and brings us inside the gilded walls of his private club, where an alternate reality in which the 2020 election was stolen became Republican Party orthodoxy.

Story
For as long as historical records have existed, authoritarian regimes have tried to rewrite history to suit their purposes, using their dictatorial powers to create myths, spread propaganda, justify decisions, erase opponents, and even dispose of crimes. Today, as America’s Republican Party becomes increasingly radicalized, it’s not surprising to see the GOP read from a similarly despotic script. Indeed, the party is taking dangerous, aggressive steps to rewrite history—and not just from generations past.

Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous–and most revered–doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero.

For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Story
You can’t truly understand the last decade of the 20th century without a look at the muddy, electrifying rock music that would come to define it: grunge. For such a short-lived genre—at least in the mainstream—grunge had a lasting impact on American music and culture. It also provides a unique lens through which to examine the post-Reagan, pre-internet America of the 1990s. In the six lectures of The Story of Grunge, you’ll explore the rise and evolution of the genre, tracing it from Seattle subculture to MTV and the Billboard charts, all the way to its decline and evolution into new forms.

Donald Trump will be president again, whether he is on the ballot or not. That is because Trumpism is overtaking the Republican Party and will mount a vigorous comeback, potentially in the hands of a savvier successor. This prophecy will come true, according to Miles Taylor, if we do not learn the lessons of the recent past. With the 2024 election approaching, the formerly “Anonymous” official is back with bombshell revelations and a sobering national forecast. Taylor predicts what could happen inside “Trump 2.0,” the White House of a more competent and more formidable copycat.

Okay story, terrible voice actor
A good, albeit very biased, look at President Trump reminiscing about the making of “The Apprentice.” It didn’t have the same energy as the author’s prior book, “Ladies who Punch,” in my opinion. The narrator was awful though; he sounded like an SNL skit mocking Trump. The story was interesting enough that I didn’t turn it off on account of the narrator, but I disliked his voice; even when he wasn’t mocking Trump, his voiced dripped with shade and condescension.

Every US citizen would benefit from author Ramin Setoodeh's new information and his insights into the former president's inability to detach himself from his role on the failed, scripted "Apprentice" TV series. This profile reveals the subject's utter lack of character & ethics, his extraordinary self-obsession, his cruelty, and his absolute disdain for law & order, facts, reality. How ironic.

This is a book you can’t put down! I like the way it was written

Excellent Storytelling
Relating/interweaving interviews as story rather than bland facts. I don’t want to kibitz for anyone. Enjoy!

How to understand a madman.
This book is essential reading. It has allowed me to mentally prepare for this second term.

Tired of trump
Part way through I realized how extremely tired I am of hearing about trump. Why can’t he just go away and get out of our faces?! I almost didn’t finish it, but thought perhaps the ending would feel like some semblance of satisfaction. Wrong! The nightmare continues. But, good writing on a terribly tragic subject.

Scary reality
This is a unique presentation of a reality star who people, some people, actually believe is a good guy. I found it terrifying AND probably true. I wish I was wrong...
