About this listen

It’s finally here. The long-awaited sequel to the bestselling Unwind, which Publishers Weekly called a “gripping, brilliantly imagined futuristic thriller.”

Thanks to Connor, Lev, and Risa—and their high-profile revolt at Happy Jack Harvest Camp—people can no longer turn a blind eye to unwinding. Ridding society of troublesome teens while simultaneously providing much-needed tissues for transplant might be convenient, but its morality has finally been brought into question. However, unwinding has become big business, and there are powerful political and corporate interests that want to see it not only continue, but also expand to the unwinding of prisoners and the impoverished.

Cam is a product of unwinding; made entirely out of the parts of other unwinds, he is a teen who does not technically exist. A futuristic Frankenstein, Cam struggles with a search for identity and meaning and wonders if a rewound being can have a soul. And when the actions of a sadistic bounty hunter cause Cam’s fate to become inextricably bound with the fates of Connor, Risa, and Lev, he’ll have to question humanity itself.

Rife with action and suspense, this riveting companion to the perennially popular Unwind challenges assumptions about where life begins and ends—and what it means to live.

Not quite as good as Unwind but still good.

I debated back and forth whether to give this 4 stars or 5. There were a few things that bugged me. Firstly, and this wouldn't have been an issue with the written copy, every chapter started with a few intro sentences - a blurb from the news or tv (I'm not sure what it's called when authors do that). About half of these were from the web (theirs, not ours) and every single dot and backslash was spelled out. It was excruciating to listen to. Second, the first half of the book had too many characters' pov. While the stories of the new kids were interesting they didn't really blend until the second half of the book and this made it drag a bit.

I'd still highly recommend it, and I can't wait to see how it ends in the third book. Now if I can only survive the wait....

Amazing

A great way to back up the first book. I love how it hints at certain elements in the first book and uses them to launch into the next.

Awesome

Very thought provoking and great to get youth on board about politics and controversial topics that impact society.

Couldn't put it down

I loved it! I appreciate a riveting book, that has minimal swearing. Performance got 4 stars because I thought Camoo needed a younger voice. I LOVED this book.

Super disturbing and thought provoking series.

Bing listened. It's amazing and thought provoking. Especially with the added facts with references that show the author's direction.

Great story, stereotypical voices are used.

For every book Luke has read, the voices are read with with stereotypes. Particularly Hispanics. For every Hispanic, regardless of the fact that they are in the US or storked to and English speaking household, a very stereotypical accent is used as if they haven’t gotten their dialect down. This is not a dig on those with English as their second language, but it is disappointing to assume any Hispanic in this story has a heightened Spanish-speaking accent. Latinos speak English and they speak it well. It really upset any time a Hispanic was mentioned, which wasn’t many times but nonetheless, that the same accent was used. I’m sure he didn’t mean to be racist, but it is something to be noted and educated on and not something to be assumed about any Latino in the story.

Blah narration

The narrator of book 2 was better than book 1, but still- there are waaaaay better narrators out there. It’s disappointing knowing this book is soooooooo good, the writing is on point, the story line is fantastic, everything is 💯 but the narration is like…..bad. If you’re like me, and listen more than you read because #adultingalldayeveryday then definitely get the book still, it’s worth it. But if you have more time to read I suggest reading it over listening to it. It’ll be way more enjoyable that way. I hope book 3 is read by someone even better 😬😬

Very clever storyline

This story continues to suck me in. I want to cheer out loud for the kids when they think faster than the bad guys! Moves fast and keeps you itching for more.

Still great

Second book in the series (actually 3rd as there is a mini addition between 1 and 2). This book could stand on its own. Loved it as much as the first. Couldn’t put it down.

Great sequel!

I loved this book. Sequels are always a hit or miss, and this was definitely a hit! After getting over the initial shock of brand new characters, you realize how brilliantly intertwined their lives are with those of the original characters Conner, Risa, and Lev. Luke Daniels does a wonderful job narrating the story. Unwholly made me pick the series back up again and enjoy a wonderful summer reading experience.
