About this listen

A thin line separates life from death, freedom from oppression. One misstep. One wrong choice.

When Cricket Black is purposely exposed to Bad Sam, she must choose: fight New Caelum's stranglehold on its citizens' freedom or succumb to the hopelessness of the lethal virus. A dear friend's death at the hands of New Caelum forces Cricket on a path to confront her past, which holds the secret to a permanent cure but also opens old wounds over the loss of her parents.

Sending the devastating Samael Strain virus into the outlying communities lands New Caelum on the verge of war with the western settlements. Inside the city, growing tension between the lower classes and New Caelum's elite rulers puts the city on edge and creates a growing divide between Vice-President Westlin Layne and his mother, President Ginger Layne.

With death, chaos, and revolution surrounding them, will West and Cricket have to sacrifice their love for each other to bring a peaceful resolution to the wars that rage inside and outside the city?

Loved it!

I purchased this book after listening to the first in the series, Emerge, and being unsatisfied with the way it ended. I still don't care for the fact that it's narrated by two different people (since each performs the characters in different ways which make it seem as though there are double the amount of characters). However, this book had a much better ending. Even though it's obvious there was another book coming, this one was told and ended in such a way that you could read or listen to it without the other two books. This book would best be read or listened to after Emerge but if you wanted to start with Uprising you could. I can't wait to see what Renaissance has in store for us!

Loved it!

I love these kind of books.
I like to imagine what a world like they describe would look like and how they survive but I also love when they have a love story mixed in to because I'm a romantic. lol. I did cringe at a couple parts when the characters act dumb but I would still recommended it because it was worth the listen!
I think this would be cool to be made into a movie saga but that's just me.

Successful Sequel

Usually I like sequels less than the first books in a series, but this one is one of the few exceptions I have. It kept me hanging on at the end of every chapter. The characters are well developed and feel very realistic. They each have their own goals and motives and emotions that felt very real. The audio only impacted the story for the positive. Some audios distract from the book but Jeena and Dan made Cricket and West come alive in a new way. When I heard the next book is narrated by them I *had* to get it. Can't wait to find out how this series ends, but I'll be sad to see West and Cricket go.
