About this listen
When Dana Field’s father died, leaving her all alone, she talked the new farmer in the area and his mother into letting her work on their farm. He needed the help, she needed to stay busy, and her cake baking didn’t fill enough of her time. However, many of the townspeople didn’t think it was a proper task for an unmarried woman. Then the vandalism started and escalated.
Was it directed against the Polish family she worked for or her, and could it be one of the men who suddenly wanted to court her?

Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Story
Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

Story
Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

I really enjoyed this story. It has great characters and covers some of the prejudice immigrants faced when coming to this country.

Another great book
Another well written book by JCH. So many twists, just when you think you have it figured out. Never saw the ending coming. A very sweet, clean romance yet also very intriguing. Definitely worth the read.

A Great Story!
What a great story! The narrator did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life.
This book touched on grief, forgiveness and being prejudice against people from different parts of the world. There was something going on all the time and I didn’t get bored I can tell you. I loved Dana’s story and how she dealt with her suitors. Wondering which man she would choose and who was doing the mean things kept me in suspense. I was surprised toward the end to find out who the culprit was. Try this good clean historical romance.
I received an audio copy of this book by the author but was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Sweet and Clean Romance
Dana couldn't make ends meet with just baking cakes after her father died. She decided to ask a new farmer in town if she could work on his farm that had belonged to her family. Even though his mother was there, there were people in town that didn't think it proper. But even more than propriety they were appalled that she would work for a Polish man. That's when the mystery began. Ms. Hopkins skillfully handled the topic of race and the bias against someone because of his race. And as always she has written another sweet romance. I loved this book!
The narration was good and made the listening easy.
I requested this audiobook from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Simple story with important topics
I found the narrator very pleasant to listen to as she changed her voice for the different characters. The story between Dana and Leon was nicely written. I liked the way Janice Cole Hopkins covered prejudice against "foreigners" by people whose families were probably foreigners themselves not that many years before. It's important to remember to practice kindness in all situations, and I think the author did a fine job of getting the message across.
