Publisher's summary

Revenge takes you nowhere, but love takes you where you should be.

After losing his hearing while firing a cannon during the Civil War, Cody came to Great Bend to nurse his ailing aunt, who dies and leaves him a wealthy man. The people in town, especially the sheriff, treat Cody with cruelty, as they call him deaf and dumb. They refuse to allow him into town to buy food and necessities.

Along comes Iris to Great Bend to become the sheriff’s mail-order bride. When she sees how cruel he treats Cody and how he encourages the town to act the same, she is shocked. How can she marry such a man? Cody and Iris become friends, but then discover there was more behind the sheriff’s behavior than Cody’s handicap. Cody and Iris fall in love, but both are afraid to confess it to the other. The sheriff wants revenge and manages to separate them, perhaps forever. He sends Iris far away, where Cody can never find her. Or can he?

Loved This Book

I loved this book. I listened to the audiobook and it was wonderful. Loved the narrator and the story. Mail order bride books are some of my favorite reads. Well this one was an original and little different than most. I’m glad the bride didn’t marry the man as soon as she got there because she would have sure enough been in a heap of trouble. Read this mail order bride book and see how she got out of the mess she got into. It’s a clean inspirational story you don’t want to miss.
I received an audio copy from the author but was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Nice story, but a bit melodramatic at times

I liked the story and the fact that it dealt with a handicapped person with compassion. It was a class of people often overlooked prior to the late 20th century. However the voice for Iris sounded way too old for a young wife. Some of the phrases like that "Brad is a rat" wouldn't have been used in the 1800's. The story was uplifting and wholesome.

Enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this book. It was very clean, and easy to listen to. Well written, though it went very fast. The narrator did a good job as well. I would definitely recommend :)

Christian Historical Romance

There are lots of trials and tribulations to get through before this couple can fully enjoy the joys of living as God has called them.
The narration started out a bit rough for me, but by the end I enjoyed it very much! I'm looking forward to the follow up book!

Loved it!

Cody operated a cannon during the war and it left him without hearing. His aunt left him her farm when she died and he stayed there as a hermit. The sheriff sent for Iris to be his mail-order-bride. He turned out to be crooked as a dogs hind leg. The real adventure with Cody and Iris gets started. A good clean story with action.
Jamison did a good job narrating it.

Sweet Romance, Inspirational

I really love the stories by this author. This is one that will remain one of my favorites. It encourages to love others; even those who are different to what we call "normal." And it is a sweet story of caring for others, helping others in need. That begins the story which leads to a marriage of convenience which God grows into romance and love. It includes just the right amount of adventure as well. I especially like the fact that it contains no inappropriate language or content which means I can highly recommend it to friends and family.

The narrations creates a picture of the characters and action that enhances the story for the listener.

I requested this audiobook from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
