About this listen
Sara, a young, previously healthy woman and a missionary, arrives at Brier Hospital with a rash and low-grade fever. In minutes, the rash erupts into destructive skin lesions, and Sara goes into shock.
Is this an undiagnosed infectious disease, or is Sara the victim of a biological weapon? Is she contagious? Is this the start of an epidemic? In their attempt to fight this disease, physicians call in the CDC. What is it? Who did it? Why did they do it? Can anyone stop it?
While Vector Red is medical fiction, the novel introduces the listener to an advanced technique for genetic manipulation with the potential to alter life as we know it, not only today but for the future. Man may have the ability to change the world, but do we have the intelligence, ethical sensibility, and foresight to see what’s ahead for good or evil?

Story
Doctor Joseph Polk is an intelligent, charismatic, and a powerful member of the medical staff at Brier Hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area, and he's killing his patients. No gun, knife, poison or drug injected into their intravenous tubing, common plot lines in medical thrillers, and he doesn't plan to kill them. They die anyway because this once brilliant physician, a functional psychopath for most of his career, has decompensated.

Story
When Asha said she wanted to give the Chinese hackers a piece of her mind, she didn’t mean it literally. But that’s what happens when medical technology goes awry. Doctors said they could train her brain to interpret digital signals from the camera in her artificial eye. The module even has Wi-Fi so they can monitor signal traffic across her optic nerve. What they didn’t anticipate was that her brain would figure out how to use the Wi-Fi connection both ways. Asha can now see the internet.

Story
Dr. W. Lee Warren, a practicing brain surgeon, assumed he knew most outcomes for people with glioblastoma, head injuries, and other health-care problems. Yet even as he tried to give patients hope, his own heart would sink as he realized, I've seen the end of you. But it became far more personal when the acclaimed doctor experienced an unimaginable family tragedy. That's when he reached the end of himself. Gripping medical stories serve as the backdrop for a raw, honest look at how we can remain on solid ground when everything goes wrong.

An almost bio-thriller that is fun and scary too
*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary, unbiased review.*
3.5/5
I enjoyed this book, but it took time to develop through the story. The first third of this book is strictly backstory to the two main characters and their daily lives growing up. I felt that while it was good to get a foundation for the latter chapters, the story was powerful enough to have these chapters significantly reduced and still have the same message good ending. Once the story got through to their adult life, it got very interesting. I really liked the concepts and the explaining of medical and scientific concepts (though I doubt professionals do data-dump like explanations to each other like they do in the book). I am a huge fan of the bio-thriller genre, and this came very close to it. I havent read any of the other stories in this series, but also felt that I didnt need to, to get a sense of the characters and the going-ons of the story. This was overall a well-written book that I wished had a little more edge to it. I would still recommend either way.

Exciting Medical Thriller
A story told from a different perspective then most of those I consume this was pretty interesting as it revolves around a woman presenting with mild symptoms that quickly kicks into overdrive and makes the medical community worried she might be infected with something natural or otherwise that'll cause an epidemic. From there it deals with the medical professionals and CDC and their tactics for examining and treating the patient as well as their concerns of where things will progress. There is a decent amount of info-dumping which honestly is necessary to understand what's going on, I'm not sure how you can speak on things as complicated as this without doing so while still having your audience understand what's going on. Anyways the tension continues throughout the rest of the story keeping it really exciting. The performance is done well as well where the narrator improves the story with his telling of it.

Sci-fi Thriller
"Vector Red: Gene Therapy/Blessing or Curse" took a little while to get going, story wise, but once it did I was hooked. While I think this one could have benefited from some serious editing (less backstory! not necessary!), it didn't detract too much from the overall experience. I enjoyed the science and medical explanations (though it was hard to picture scientists explaining science to each other like that...) and remained interested to find out what happened next throughout. Marcia E.H. Rezza delivers a good performance narrating this book. I'd be curious to read the next one in the series!

Very good!
This was my first novel by Lawrence W. Gold, and it was a good one. The story is basically a critical treatise on biological weapons research; i.e., an example of what could go wrong even though the initial intentions were not malicious. Or were they? The story is also somewhat of a character study of Dr. Gary Woodston, one of the Bioweapon scientists. The tale had me firmly planted on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens next. This is a very good story and highly recommended. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
