Nobody really believes in a curse. Until you know the people who disappear. Too much coincidence, you look for reason. Too much death, you grasp for something to blame. Carson pulled Delaney out and he died on the side of the road with her mouth pressed to his. Her air in his body. Troy. She told the cops it was suicide. Didn't matter. The lake released her and grabbed another. But when Decker's father dies in a pool of spilled water on their kitchen floor, all Decker can feel is a slow burning rage. Because he knows that Delaney knew that his dad was going to die. She knew and backed out of his house and never said a word. Falcon Lake still has a hold on them both, and Decker can't forgive Delaney until he knows why.

Happily, it wasn't so with this audiobook. Therese Plummer did a really great job. As I listened, it began to feel "right" that she was doing the narration. She caught the nuances of each character's personality and had none of the exaggerated voice highs or lows that some narrators tend to use when shifting from male to female or vice-versa. In fact, having her read from Decker's point of view served to show his and all the other characters' youth.
While this book is a sequel, it can hold its own because the author makes references to past events. I liked the pace--no unnecessary scenes, no long-drawn out run of the mill descriptions. Sometimes there is a feeling of a suppressed forward movement which echoes Decker's ambivalence. There is enough mystery to keep you going. There are some bits that didn't quite make it in terms of credibility but I could be overthinking things. I won't mention it here as it could be quite the spoiler. Otherwise, I'd say I enjoyed it more than I expected to and will be keeping an eye out for more of Megan Miranda's work!
Thank you for this gift Audible! Much appreciated!

What did you love best about Vengeance?
It's a haunting mystery. I love how it towed the line between supernatural horror story and crime mystery. It makes you start to suspect anything and everything. I also like how it's not told from Delaney's perspective but from Decker's.Who was your favorite character and why?
Decker because the author made the character's inner thoughts so believable. So full of contradictions and conflict, so like an adolescent in turmoil. What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her ability to make you believe her voice is the voice of the character. From the adolescent boy to the mother, the pauses at just the right places, the inflections. She puts subtle nuances in her words that make you hear more than just the words spoken but the deeper feelings behind it that you wouldn't have (or I wouldn't have) pulled from the words by reading the book once.If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Darkness will rise to the surface.Any additional comments?
It's so good, I'm buying the her first book.Oooh so good!

What did you like best about Vengeance? What did you like least?
This story had a ton of promise, but fell well short in my opinion. The ending was decent, but the bits in the middle were extremely painful. The main character was not even remotely likeable and I kept screaming for him to suck it up. He was the "poor pitiful me" angry type that I just can't connect with at all. It's hard to like a novel if you couldn't care less about the main character. I kept wishing that the "curse" would take him out.Would you recommend Vengeance to your friends? Why or why not?
No, for the reasons already stated. What three words best describe Therese Plummer’s voice?
She has a good voice. Was Vengeance worth the listening time?
It wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't one that I would listen to again.Disappointing

Would you listen to Vengeance again? Why?
It was a good story but I wouldn't listen to it again. I guess you can call it one shot goodness. What was one of the most memorable moments of Vengeance?
When the story started pulling together. When Carson and Delaney get back together after misguided breakup, they figured out that the ill mother of the new kid in town was no longer alive. Piecing together who was making the group of friends think that it was the curse of Falcon Lake, this story starts to have a great build. Lots of twist to the story. One thing I was disappointed in is that this is book 2. I was given this book early to review and found out after 3/4 of the way through the book.Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?
All of them. I am a huge fan of Therese Plumber. I also follow her narration to other books. She is great a voice work. Little known fact she also narrates under Savannah Richards.Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book. I will go back and read/listen to the first one. I felt like I was missing a few things."Listen…."
