Good Starting Hands, Position, Taming Tilt

As with all of Tommy Angelo's books and articles, WFS is approachable and written in a way that all can relate to and understand. As he described the difference we feel when flopping the nut flush draw in position versus out of position, I could feel that "tinge of tension" and "discomfort" he described (and asks us to think about) as I read along. As he described his almost "unfair" style of play of waiting for straighters and using position, I laughed and thought, heck yeah, what a great way to lighten my mental load.

WFS is a must read for anyone with tilt issues. It's become an accountability partner for me. I'm not saying the poker demons won't occasionally hold me in thrall during my poker journey, and I'll certainly get out of line, but I'll have a port in the storm to return to. The concept is genius in its simplicity. Wait for straighters, play in position, reduce pain. Not rocket science but so often forgotten when caught in the rapture of the game.

The audio version is great. Tommy has a nice, often playful voice, and there are musical riffs to let you know when a change has taken place. It's well worth the credit.

Clear, inventive poker strategy I used at once.

Tommy Angelo brings a remarkable clarity to a complex game. I’ve read two of his books, and was happy to discover this article. His analysis helped to transform my game and I was able to change up my approach immediately. We think all of poker has been dissected and revealed. For me, it certainly hasn't. Tommy gave me ideas about preflop play I wouldn't have considered. And he ditched the dense math-chat which I sometimes struggle with, found in a lot of poker content today. I've studied other poker writers who make suitedness one of the highest values for our starting hands. Here, Tommy deepened my thinking about connected cards, suited or not. I now love getting comfortable playing "straighters," especially in position. This writing is simple, elegant, just right. Recommended.

Solid starting advice

Great for beginners and anyone lacking discipline. It's a good refresher for anyone who may have let their game get a bit sloppy, always good to go back to the basics and re-think how you've been playing lately.

Funny!!

I have listened to a lot of poker books, and this one was so funny! I have never experienced that, and I liked it. The author has one other book on audible, it will be my next listen.
