Publisher's summary

The inside story on President Trump, as only Bob Woodward can tell it

With authoritative reporting honed through eight presidencies from Nixon to Obama, author Bob Woodward reveals in unprecedented detail the harrowing life inside President Donald Trump’s White House and precisely how he makes decisions on major foreign and domestic policies.

Woodward draws from hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand sources, meeting notes, personal diaries, files, and documents. The focus is on the explosive debates and the decision-making in the Oval Office, the Situation Room, Air Force One, and the White House residence.

Fear is the most intimate portrait of a sitting president ever published during the president’s first years in office.

political horror story

I struggled with this book. I'm not a supporter of Trump but I am a Republican. I would love to discount this book but that would be next to impossible.

Fair & Balanced

Well done Bob.

If you are looking for a hatchet job on the President this book will not be for you.

A fascinating look a the chaos and inner workings of the West Wing

Trump is no hero. He is no great leader. He is a deeply flawed man. But there is no piling on in this book.

Woodward makes no conclusion, you will be able to decide for yourself if Donald Trump is ill suited for the role of President of the United States.

Woodward pulls back the curtain to reveal, palace intrigue, personalities and motivations of the people who, for better or worse, advise the most explosive personality that has ever occupied the office.

At times this book feels uncomfortable when you learn just how close we come to the edge. If not for the advisors.

Are they motivated by fielty to the Constitution and love of country or are they serving their own purposes?

Woodward getting played a bit?

Don't you love it when Steve Bannon gives "off the record" interviews to make himself look good, and in the process forgets to describe his role in Cambridge Analytica and the whole Russia collusion piece? As much as Woodward's work is respected and clearly backed up by receipts, I do wonder whether he takes into account people's alternate motives to provide plentiful information. But beyond that, this account is worrisome and further indication that the Co-mandarin-Chief needs to be impeached.

Nothing new; unless you’ve lived under a rock since 2015

Trump is vile. I hate him, his family, and his supporters. I BELIEVE he is a traitor to our nation.

This book tells nothing new, remarkable, and the story has been told so many times this year.

I respect Bob W. (Author), but this time others beat you to the punch.

Woodward at his very best!

I haven't sufficient words of praise for this book. The amount of detailed information exhaustively compiled is mindbendind. The details of which have clarified many opaque areas of this convoluted mess. Suddenly I see.

Afraid For My Country

This was an excellent book. The best book that has thus far been written about the Trump Administration. The amount of research and sourcing was astonishing. This was more than just a book written from the perspective of one person like some of the others previously written. Woodward conducted dozens of interviews, reviewed notes, documents, testimonies... It's hard to imagine just how much work he did to write this book.

The overall conclusion is not a surprise to anyone in the slightest... The man calling himself President of the United States is a narcissistic, arrogant, erratic, self-serving, self-incriminating, ignorant, unprepared, shady, corrupt, maniacal lunatic that this country will be lucky to survive. (and that's if only 10% of what's in this book is true)

A lot of the book's material was a recap of things we have already seen and heard, a lot more of it was new information and gave many more points of view than we have previously heard, and still more of the book was so shocking I had to rewind to be sure I heard it right...

Buckle up America. It's gonna be a crazy ride!

mesmerizing page-turner

Woodward presents unparalleled insight into the inner-workings of Trump's White House, as well as into the thinking of the President himself.

Wow. It's a train wreck IRL

It's so detailed and succinct. That last sentence was so chilling and cut right through me with its earnest and righteous anger and disgust. Mr. Woodward, Thank you for your diligence and commitment to journalism.

Actually this was pretty fair and balanced

At least moreso than I expected. it ends up being an apolitical assessment of a man and good character. Fascinating and horrifying.

Scariest Book of the Year

If you think Stephen King is spine chilling, just wait 'til you give this title a whirl. It'll keep you up at night for months to come - though hopefully not for six more years.
