About this listen

Dr. Neil Anson Clemons was born at the very moment that men first landed on the moon and always strived to become an astronaut and reach the stars. Neil devoted his life to staying physically fit as any astronaut should be through martial arts and mentally fit by studying and becoming one of the world's foremost experts in quantum physics and gravitational theory. Now he and his team have achieved a breakthrough, both in building a warp drive, and finding a new energy source powerful enough to make the drive more than an interesting theoretical concept.

With the help of attractive and outspoken southern astronaut, US Air Force Colonel Tabitha Ames, the US Government is convinced to fund the Top Secret warp project, including assembly in orbit of the first faster-than-light probe. Unfortunately, forces working behind the scenes have much darker dreams, and have infiltrated the Top Secret program. They do not hesitate to blow up a space shuttle, attempt to kill Neil and Tabitha, and use the stolen warp technology to start what they expect to be a short, devastating, and victorious war with the United States.

But Dr. Clemons has ideas for using his warp drive technology completely unsuspected by America's enemies, and repelling the all-out attack is only the beginning of a titanic struggle to reach the stars.

I don’t think this country would be that stupid to not setup better protection for our scientists that’s why I think the story could have been better and referral to gun laws are not true good luck on next try.

Felt like I was in my science class

SPOILER ALERT the plot elements were all there and well thought out. I would suggest that this should have been 3 separate books. the first book being the proof of concept through the Florida fight. the second being the secret war. and the third being the moon base and exploration. it feels like the later two sections were very rushed.
otherwise, I liked the story and enjoyed the human elements mixed with the science.
my on nit pick is the ridiculous things that are said about physicians on behalf of physicists. as a physician who studied theoretical physics at the graduate level, I can assure you that it is uninformed at best.

good story, unbalanced pacing

The overall concept and broad plot are great but were ruined by several elements:

1) Too much detailed talk about specific sports - obviously those of interest to the author
2) Overdone southern accent and manner of the primary character
3) Too much political opinion - again obviously those of the author

Great idea ruined by too much of a few things

This book needs a lot of revisions. But has several good ideas that could be expanded on. This author seems to do better work when paired with another author see books like Vonewman‘s War with John rings. The writing has improved.

Authors first book published in 2004

I have listened to other Travis S Taylor books, and always enjoy reading science fiction from a real honest to God scientist.
The references and nods to Heinlein in this book are also fun. I share the authors reverence with Heinlein. This was a fast paced roller coaster of science, fiction, possibilities, and good old American values.

Looking forward to the next one!

Fun, Funny, and a cool story too.

Lots of good science theory put to a practical application. Narrator did well but seemed in a rush.

Nice science

I am a huge fan of the one day on Mars books, the tau ceti agenda. That said, this could have been a great book, but it's just okay. obviously the author is very conservative in many of his views, yet was unable to keep them out of the book. multiple agenda driven rants made finishing the book difficult at times, but if you can overlook those, or you enjoy that perspective, this is a good book.

pretty good, I liked some of his other work better

I could wish that the private sector’s of are world could accomplish the next great leap into the stars in my life time . It’s not going to happen unless we’re visited by extremely friendly interstellar beings who are out just looking around and seeing the sights ha , ha . I enjoyed the story for what it was .

Fascinating !
