The world building is still extraordinary, vivid environments with details that make you feel like you’re in them yourself. Fight sequences grip you and you will feel yourself holding your breath over the gut wrenching moments. This books overall charm came in the form of exploring Sandstorms and Firestar’s relationship, testing their faith, loyalty, and trust in each other. There was heavy emphasis on the right thing to do, and we get to see a different side of Firestar removed from the forest.
The book lacked in pacing; the first 10 chapters felt like they dragged on and the story didn’t pick up until they had finally reached their destination. There were continuity errors in the story telling, lack of exploring character motivations, and the driving force behind Firestar’s quest did not feel as if it was worth it.
My overall review is that this book was an exceptional story of the relationship building of Firestar and sandstorm, and a true test of Firestar’s heart of a warrior. I do feel as though you could easily skip reading this book and move onto the next big chapter in the series, but for the background information it helps to understand what happened to Firestar when he traveled with Sandstorm.
