Publisher's summary

From the warped mind who brought you Zombies Don’t Surf and the rest of the Guardians of the Apocalypse saga comes a twisted tale of blood and death and magic in a mythical place called The City. Think The Dresden Files meets Sin City, while hanging out with The Warriors in 1947, then crank it up to 11 and hang on for the ride.

On 10 the whole time!

If you want fast-paced without all the boring backstories, this is for you! The backstory is threaded in the book throughout but it is a non-stop high adrenaline on the edge of your seat read! You may have to remind yourself to breathe! Highly recommend! Funny, plucky, great characters and story line. I can't wait for the next one!

Love it

Very funny! Fast paced with gangsters and speakeasies, voodoo rituals, demons and a virgin sacrifice mixed into a old time feel detective story! What more could you want! It's gory and has a fun plot. I really like the characters interaction I can't wait to listen to the next book! I also really love the narrator he is perfect for this story!

Mayhem Indeed!

This was an entertaining book! If you enjoy noir detective stories mixed with a bit of magic, give this book a try. Fans of "The Dresden Files" will love this book!

Set in the 1930's (I think) in an alternate US, we are introduced to Horatio Nightingale, a former policeman turned PI, and Jennifer Amato, the daughter of Horatio's late friend. Horatio is searching for an alderman's daughter when he becomes caught up in gang wars and demon summoning! You have gangsters in various factions trying to kill each other while Horatio and Jennifer try to stop the end of the world. Also, I meet an untimely death in this book when I am hit by a bus (OUCH!)...how cool is that?

Fast paced, action packed with a touch of magic, this is great fun. The narrator's voice and pacing were perfect for the "just the facts" style of the book and added a lot to it.
