"A spellbinding story about what may transpire when the natural world collides with a legacy of witchcraft."—Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of The Lost Apothecary

"Narrators Aysha Kala, Helen Keeley, and Nell Barlow are a magical, moving trio. Their emotional and expressive performance of the parallel narratives ranges from touching and timid to tense and twisting."—Library Journal

I am a Weyward, and wild inside.

2019: Under cover of darkness, Kate flees London for ramshackle Weyward Cottage, inherited from a great aunt she barely remembers. With its tumbling ivy and overgrown garden, the cottage is worlds away from the abusive partner who tormented Kate. But she begins to suspect that her great aunt had a secret. One that lurks in the bones of the cottage, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

1619: Altha is awaiting trial for the murder of a local farmer who was stampeded to death by his herd. As a girl, Altha’s mother taught her their magic, a kind not rooted in spell casting but in a deep knowledge of the natural world. But unusual women have always been deemed dangerous, and as the evidence for witchcraft is set out against Altha, she knows it will take all of her powers to maintain her freedom.

1942: As World War II rages, Violet is trapped in her family's grand, crumbling estate. Straitjacketed by societal convention, she longs for the robust education her brother receives–and for her mother, long deceased, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death. The only traces Violet has of her are a locket bearing the initial W and the word weyward scratched into the baseboard of her bedroom.

Weaving together the stories of three extraordinary women across five centuries, Emilia Hart's Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world.

I’ve read some bad reviews of this book and I am sad to see them. I understand about the triggering parts of this book, having had similar wrongful acts committed to myself. However, I think whether or not you’ve been witness to such acts of assault, rape, domestic violence, this book gives so much in the way of learning empathy for women who have been in those horrible situations. This is a wonderful generational book about women who’s bonds strengthen them. I loved every minute and the style of writing. The narrator performed this story so well and I loved the accent and sound of her voice. Will recommend for sure!

A wonderful, heavy book!

Could have been 20 mins shorter….and there are a few times I would have liked to shake the modern day character. Don’t recommend this book.

Meh….eye roll.

The story was a wonderful idea but the execution fell short for me. everything was resolved so quickly in the very end of the book. I would have liked to see each woman discovering themselves sooner. The narration was wonderful though!

wonderful narrators for a slightly dull story

This book is fabulously written intertwining the past and present lives of the Weyward women done so wonderfully and built into the most fantastic story of coming into your own power as a woman and being a good ancestor. Highly recommend!!

Well written, well read, interesting story, and depicts an experience so normal it makes me want to vomit. Very well done.

EXCELLENT

I loved this thoughtful story that got me interested in its characters and their fates. It’s less about witchcraft and more about feminine power and bad men who seek to crush women. I do wish there had been content warnings about violence, rape, and animal deaths. Still worth the listen, though!

Thoughtful story!

A tale of times so long ago yet not so different from current times. Generations of females who are gifted or cursed with abilities and a connection to earthly creatures. Generations of females who by the hand of some terrible males and circumstances have come to know their own exceptional abilities. Handed down with a locket and a key.

Bird bird bird
