Story
It's Valentine's Day, and Ellie Knight finds herself eating Nutella in the bar stock after a no-show date. But single doesn't have to be the loneliest number, does it? She goes back home to her flatshare and weird flatmates. It's okay there's black mould everywhere, right? With a hangover from hell, she goes to the office job she thought she would have quit by now. Doesn't everyone hate their job? Maybe Ellie isn't following the official life plan, but perfect is overrated.

Nat and Zoe have always shared everything. Hopeless crushes, emergency tampons, messy sex stories, work triumphs, those days where you can't stop crying in the loos, those days where you can't stop dancing on the bar. They even share the same birthday, FFS. The struggle is real, but they'll always have each other. Except best friends forever is a hard promise to keep.

Story
Alice is turning 30 and is stuck in a rut. Her friends are all coupling up and settling down, while she's still working as a temp, trying (and failing) not to shag her terrible ex, getting thrown out of clubs, and accidentally sexting her boss.... She decides to throw caution to the wind and jets off on a round-the-world adventure to #FindTheFun and find herself. Of course, she's no more likely to find the answer to true happiness on the beach in Thailand than she is at the electric beach in Tooting, but at least in Thailand there's paddleboard yoga.

After getting dumped over the radio, with millions of listeners tuning in, my life is in serious need of a do-over. Trying to please everyone else isn’t working, so it’s time to focus on me. But not everyone is on board with the new Perci—my overbearing mother is still dreaming about me walking down the aisle with my awful ex. Story
Sasha has had it. She cannot bring herself to respond to another inane, “urgent” email or participate in the corporate employee joyfulness program. She hasn’t seen her friends in months. Sex? Seems like a lot of effort. Even cooking dinner takes far too much planning. Sasha has hit a wall. Armed with good intentions to drink kale smoothies, try yoga, and find peace, she heads to the seaside resort she loved as a child. But it’s the off season, the hotel is in a dilapidated shambles, and she has to share the beach with the only other occupant: a grumpy guy named Finn.

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Great book! I can relate to Lilah so much!
Chose this book because I needed something light hearted to get me through a very difficult time in my life and this book did not disappoint. I could relate so much to the main character of being a pushover and putting everyone else’s needs before her own. Love the life lessons she learns as starts standing up for herself and finding her voice and figuring out who she is. Very inspiring to me right now as I’m finding my voice too!

Funny, refreshing, and a little chaotic—just like a wedding toast gone awry! 🎉
Lucy Vine's *What Fresh Hell* is an entertaining dive into the chaotic world of friendships, weddings, and adulthood. The book humorously explores the challenges of navigating multiple roles as a friend, guest, and sometimes reluctant participant in the whirlwind of nuptial celebrations.
Vine's witty and relatable writing shines, creating laugh-out-loud moments that anyone who's ever attended a wedding (or ten) will recognize. The cast of characters, while amusing, occasionally feels a bit exaggerated, making it hard to connect deeply with them at times. Additionally, the story may rely on clichés here and there, but Vine's sharp humor and refreshing voice make up for it.
Overall, *What Fresh Hell* is a delightful read for fans of relatable humor and contemporary fiction. It's not a flawless journey, but it captures the absurdity of modern social life with panache. Very easy read.

Absolutely Hilarious! (But Definitely NSFK**!)
Okay, look. If you're hoping for great, life-changing literature, this is not it. And if you have no sense of humor, are offended by foul language, and/or are a prudish, uptight person that hates having fun, you really should just move along to something else.
(My apologies. Some of the other comments really set me off.)
However, if you can handle a little bit of immaturity and are looking for a fun, engaging audiobook to help pass the time on a long drive or, as in my case, while you are packing up your entire house for a move to a new city, then read on!
My family and I are in the middle of a major move and I really needed something funny, light-hearted, and entertaining to keep me company during the endless hours of packing, cleaning, and the hour long drive back and forth, and this book fit the bill perfectly. It seems like very few things make me laugh out loud these days, but this book had me cracking up nearly constantly. I fell in love with the characters and the story line and, even though I can't necessarily relate to the main character's reluctance to get married, I still understood and respected her reasons why.
Yes, some of the plot lines are a little bit over the top, but that's part of what makes this book so much fun.
The only thing I really dislike about the book is how much the main character, Lilah, blames herself for everything that goes wrong and doesn't defend herself when she really needs to. This is something that I, too, have struggled with all my life. However, that is also the biggest lesson she learns, and it is glorious when she finally breaks through her self-imposed wall, thanks in part to her grandmother's (amazing!) monologue in the second half of the book.
I love and respect the fact that Lilah was able to see and understand how her tendency to be a people pleaser actually made things worse in a lot of ways. It can be very hard to say 'no' when you need to, and even harder to tell a friend or loved one that they're being an idiot or a selfish asshole. However, sometimes that person really needs to hear it, and if you don't say anything now it ends up hurting them more in the long run.
The last few chapters of the book did seem a bit forced, though, and not as polished as the rest, but it didn't detract from the overall story and I still enjoyed it. I suspect that the writer really needed to wrap up the book and struggled to fit everything in, and I understand that. However, I really wish that she had spread the story out over multiple books as I'd love to know what happens with Will and whether or not anything romantic happens between Lilah and Mr. Cannid. Plus, I'd love to spend more time with Grannie Frannie!
Finally, I loved the narration, but I didn't at first. At the beginning I felt that the narrator took too many long pauses in between stanzas, and it was a little bit annoying. However, as the book continued, her pacing began to make sense and really work with the story.
The best part, though, is that she doesn't just read words on a page, but instead gives them life. Her narration adds so much to the story, and her phrasing makes the funny lines all the more hilarious. She was, in my opinion, perfect.
(**Not safe for kids. Lots of "bad" words and tons of references to sex, penises, vulvas, boobs, shiny naked men, etc. I highly recommend listening with earbuds to avoid warped young minds and scandalized old ladies, and awkward explanations for your husband or boyfriend.)
