About this listen

For years, he's been an object of fear, fascination...and fantasy. But of all the wicked rumors that shadow the formidable Alexander Moncrieffe, Duke of Falconbridge, the ton knows one thing for certain: Only fools dare cross him. And when Ian Eversea does just that, Moncrieffe knows the perfect revenge: He'll seduce Ian's innocent sister, Genevieve - the only Eversea as yet untouched by scandal. First he'll capture her heart...and then he'll break it.

But everything about Genevieve is unexpected: the passion simmering beneath her cool control, the sharp wit tempered by gentleness...and though Genevieve has heard the whispers about the duke's dark past, and knows she trifles with him at her peril, one incendiary kiss tempts her deeper into a world of extraordinary sensuality. Until Genevieve is faced with a fateful choice...is there anything she won't do for a duke?

Contains mature themes.

In this bing society, it’s so easy to become bored. I was looking for a romance story with depth , angst, fire and a good HEA. This was it . I only read one of the other books in this series and that was enough to not get lost in this one. It can be read as a standalone, so don’t feel as if you have to start from a book one. The narrator is always one of my favorites, and she did a stellar job here as usual.

Finally a good story

Genevieve has loved Harry for years, they are such good friends, they like the same things. She has waited three years for him to propose and then he tells her he is going to propose to their friend Millicent. This sends her into a slow developing romance with another house-party guest, Alex Moncrieff, the Duke of Falconridge. But Alex is at the party to seek revenge on Genevieve's brother, Ian, and what better way than to seduce his sister.

Julie Anne Long brings about what at first seems impossible. Turning a love addled miss into a passionate siren with the "wrong" man.

This is probably my favorite book of the series and I'm delighted that the series is now on Audible.
I also initially found the narration to be too fast but I could adjust it on my Fire tablet so it was not a problem.

Is it Lust or Love?

There were strong characters. The focus was the relationship, and even though Genevieve had trouble figuring out her feelings, she did it in a not too ridiculous way. Most of her life she had dreamed of winning Harry, so it was difficult for her to recognize her feelings. I liked that the Duke gave her what she thought she wanted and once she knew was able to forget her old longings. I liked that he did not take forever to figure out his own feelings. The novel did not go overboard but it was a slow burn. I was able to finish it because it wasn’t padded with misunderstandings and over wrought exclamations of love from both characters. It ended at the right place and it flowed. I usually find myself cringing when the hero prostrates himself too much and when the heroine waxes on and on about her love. I usually stop reading when the romance is over and the adventure starts. If the adventure goes on while the romance builds that works for me, but they should be integrated. There was great banter between the hero and the heroine and humor.

This one hit my favorite tropes

Surprisingly good. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to listen because it was the middle of the series but it was very good

Enjoyable read. Characters were well-developed and likable for the most part. My main complaint was the FMC over the top longing for a man who had only kissed her hand drug on and on. The relationship between the characters was relatable with humorous parts and felt like a family. I recommend for a good summer read.

My first read from this author and I just could t stop until the end.. the ending was a little too quick and tidy for me but I loved the journey. Main characters are absolutely lovable - Gifted writer who brought the characters to life.. narration was ok.

Loved it!
