About this listen

In a world of sound bites, deliberate misinformation, and a political scene that is colored by the blue-versus-red partisan divide. How does the average educated American find a reliable source that's free of political spin?

What You Should Know About Politics...But Don't breaks it all down, issue by issue, explaining who stands for what, and why - whether it's the economy, income inequality, Obamacare, foreign policy, education, immigration, or climate change.

If you're a Democrat, a Republican, or somewhere in between, it's the perfect audiobook to brush up on a single topic or listen through to get a deeper understanding of the often mucky world of American politics.

This is an essential volume for understanding the background to the 2016 presidential election. But it is also an audiobook that transcends the season. It's truly for anyone who wants to know more about the issues, which are perennial issues that will continue to affect our everyday lives.

Informative!

Provides a decent background on political issues surrounding public praise and criticism without bias. Clearly points out popular and unpopular opinion between the political parties. Professionally and clearly narrated.

less fact based and more opinion based

like the title says it's a little bias, but still good information. I recommend the read.

Everyone should read this (twice)!

Like drinking from a fire hose, but Teri does a fantastic job with the narration that kept me engaged... for 14 hours!!! I will listen again as there was SO much material presented, but definitely gave me background that will help me understand what I see going on in today’s world!

How to be an informed citizen

I am glad that I read this book and took my time reading about and then thinking about the issues. It helps me prepare for the November 2020 election and beyond to try to understand all the news reports and sound bites about politics. It provides the background and basic facts to better understand political issues and decisions, what the implications are, and alternative views.

As I read it, I focus on the facts and take a high-level view of the issue. The more I know about what happened in the past and the more I can get a complete current view of the issue, I am more comfortable learning about and discussing these issues, and can respond in an objective and constructive manner to the issues and events that occur due to them.

This is a book I will read again to be able to see big picture and stay sane in the world today.

Very unbiased, but a little confusing

This was a good informational read, but I think the person reading could have taken a few more pauses that would make it easier to understand when one topic was ending and another one was beginning. Overall a good read with a lot of important information. The author did a great job staying unbiased.

Great, easy-to-read overview of key issues!

At the time of writing, I'm following the 2020 Democratic primary. I was looking for a book that covered election topics so I could better follow the debates and understand the overall process and context better. This book was just what I was looking for! As someone pretty new to these topics, and as a millennial just reaching voting age at the time of the 2008 financial crisis, I found this book easy to understand and really helped me fill in many gaps in my knowledge of American politics and world events.
