About this listen

Will a rake's wicked ways lead the lady astray?

Andrew Carrington, Earl of Bellingham, believes in being a gentleman, whether it's fishing a soggy stranger out of the Thames or assisting a fetching lady into his bed. If the stranger becomes a friend and the lady a mistress, all the better. He certainly welcomes the opportunity to help Laura Davenport, a dazzling young widow with a rebellious stepson. Her gratitude, he hopes, will take an amorous form. But from the moment he sets foot in her drawing room, he gets far more than he bargained for.

It was a moment of desperation. On the brink of losing her stepson, Laura turned to the notorious Lord Bellingham for help. Suddenly, she, a vicar's daughter, is in the precarious position of resisting his tantalizing advances. How Bell earned his wicked reputation is clear; the surprise is how much more there is to him than the gossip sheets could possibly reveal. Now every moment with this dangerously desirable man puts Laura's good name at risk - and promises pleasure unlike any she has ever known....

Critic reviews

"4 1/2 stars! TOP PICK! Dreiling's first book in the Sinful Scoundrel's series is wonderful! Rife with the Regancy's penchant for gossip, scandal and matchmaking, What a Wicked Earl Wants is a delightful romance featuring a rakish hero, an innocent widow, corrupt villains and a secondary cast of characters who add dimension, wit and tenderness to the plot. Readers will find this a real pleasure to savor." ( RT Book Reviews)

great dialogue and character development

Good dialogue between characters made this particularly good. Sex was spicey enough but infrequent. I didn't miss it because the story line was quite engaging. Narration was good, especially true as there are quite a few characters in this book.

Wonderful characters! Fantastic book!

This is one of the best books I have listened to in almost a year and I listen to about 2-3 a week!
The characters in this book actually have conversations, there is little misunderstandings between the two of them (at least not the man made ones that leave you smashing you head in)!
There is an evil character but he doesn't take up much time and doesn't turn the whole last half of the book into fighting about him!
The feelings are real, they grow together in them and there is moderate sex scenes that are pleasant and sometimes funny.
The whole book has witty remarks and it is just a wonderfully written romance novel as I really don't like that SO MANY historical romance books have either so much war scenes or such that take away from the romance between the two main characters lives!
I read romance for romance...I am not a man who loves to read about battles, evil-evil villains doing bad things constantly, I really wish more authors would write in this style! Bravo Vicky and Priscilla it was outstanding!

Disappointing ending

This was entertaining. I liked the story until the last part of the book. At that point it fell apart. The unfolding of the uncle/guardian storyline was extremely disappointing as was the ending. I also found the narrator didn't differentiate between voices enough - even between men and women. I'd have to give this a 3.5.
