About this listen

Samuel Charles Aubrey St. Aldwyn, Duke of Gravenhurst, is a radical rogue and champion of unpopular causes. No one would dream that he is also the author of a best-selling series of dark historical novels, a writer accused of corrupting the morals of the public, and a master seducer who counts among his passionate fans wellborn Miss Lily Boscastle. But Lily is no stranger to disrepute.

When her engagement to another man ends in a tarnished image and public disgrace, Lily is forced to seek employment outside London - as housekeeper for Gravenhust himself. Her sharp wit and sensuality appeal to his wicked instincts, and she's a perfect match for every beguiling move he makes. Yet there's more to him than Lily imagined: a secret known to few living souls, ghosts from the past that haunt both of their futures in ways too dangerous for even the duke to have invented.

Critic reviews

"A sinfully sexy hero with a secret, a book-obsessed heroine in search of her own happy-ever-after ending, a delightfully clever plot that takes great fun in spoofing the literary world, and writing that sparkles with wicked wit and exquisite sensuality add up to an exceptionally entertaining read worthy of 'Lord Anonymous' himself." What a charming witty diamond of a story. Every character was written with thought that made you want to know more about.

I really liked the character of Samuel, what a sweet, dashing man. Lily was likeable as well. Narrator was wonderful.

a lovely story to pass the time.

Would you try another book from Jillian Hunter and/or Justine Eyre?

Maybe

Would you recommend A Duke's Temptation to your friends? Why or why not?

No. The story was kind of disjointed with pieces that didn't even seem to be part of the story.

Could you see A Duke's Temptation being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

I didn't care for it

This is what I would call an outlandish romp! So totally bizarrely implausible that it made me roll my eyes! I read the third book first, and loved it! I enjoyed this one well enough but at times my mind drifted away from it before I realized I’d missed too much and had to rewind.

I like the narrator, she’s a regency queen!

The sexual content is explicit yet not crude....

Such craziness!

Well, it had intrigue, romance, murder rogues, questionable characters all mixed together in a strange combination. I’m still unclear as to the motive of the murderer. It was an odd story

What disappointed you about A Duke's Temptation?

First the narration was terrible, whiny. The story had no depth.

Has A Duke's Temptation turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, maybe the author, definitely the narrator.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Justine Eyre?

Kate Reading or Phil Giganti

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I really can't say, I didn't finish it.

Any additional comments?

Can I get my credit back?

Not worth the $ or credit

no

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something that isn't Jilliam Hunter

What didn’t you like about Justine Eyre’s performance?

It was ok - but not great

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A Duke's Temptation?

all of it

Any additional comments?

First 10 chapters devoted to one evening. Really? I couldn't finish the book after that. Waste of money.
