Discover grace as you've never known it before: the most powerful force in the universe and our only hope for love and forgiveness.
Grace is the church's great distinctive. It's the one thing the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else - for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world.
In What's So Amazing About Grace?, award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, he asks, then what does it look like in action? And if Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy?
Yancey sets grace in the midst of life's stark images, tests its mettle against horrific "ungrace":
- Can grace survive in the midst of such atrocities as the Nazi Holocaust?
- Can it triumph over the brutality of the Ku Klux Klan?
- Should any grace at all be shown to the likes of Jeffrey Dahmer, who killed and cannibalized 17 young men?
Grace does not excuse sin, says Yancey, but it treasures the sinner. True grace is shocking, scandalous. It shakes our conventions with its insistence on getting close to sinners and touching them with mercy and hope. It forgives the unfaithful spouse, the racist, the child abuser. It loves today's AIDS-ridden addict as much as the tax collector of Jesus' day.
In his most personal and provocative book ever, Yancey offers compelling, true portraits of grace's life-changing power. He searches for its presence in his own life and in the church. He asks, How can Christians contend graciously with moral issues that threaten all they hold dear?
And he challenges us to become living answers to a world that desperately wants to know, What's So Amazing About Grace?

Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

Story
Philip Yancey probes the very heartbeat of our relationship with God: prayer. What is prayer? Does it change God's mind or ours or both? This book is an invitation to communicate with God the Father who invites us into an eternal partnership through prayer. In this powerful listen, Yancey tackles the tough questions and, in the process, comes up with a fresh new approach to this timeless topic. "I have learned to pray as a privilege, not a duty", he says, and he invites you to join him on this all-important journey.

Story
Christians have proclaimed the good news about Jesus for centuries. But the good news isn't sounding so good these days, at least to some. More and more surveys show that people view Christians as bearers of bad news, judgment, and intolerance. In Vanishing Grace, best-selling author Philip Yancey acknowledges the problem and then explores how we can respond with both grace and truth. He offers a discerning look at what contributes to a hostility toward Christians, and identifies three groups - pilgrims, artists, and activists - who can show us a different way.

The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Another Gem from Yancy
Yancy is set far apart from cliche American Christian writing I've come to loathe. Consciously shunning clubby neo-pious "insider" dialogue, Yancy approaches issues of faith with a journalist's integrity to honesty, balance, and scope. As a Christian, I find much in today's Christian pop culture outright embarrassing -- Yancy is one of the shining exceptions of intellectual integrity. This book is certainly among his best works.

Amazing is Right!
Alternate title for the book: Everything you ever wanted to know about God's Grace but never knew to ask.
Grace tasks us to be "gracious" to everyone including sinners, enemies, and "different people". But the world and even some churches have taught us to give them "un-grace" instead.

Made me stop and think
Very thoughtful insights as to grace and the wonderful aspects of how God and Jesus have given us a gift that is priceless. Provoked me to think of ways I could apply it to every day life and my relationships with my kids, my wife and my friends ... and especially people I don't like.

Truly inspiring.
I found this book to be truly inspiring. He uses wonderful stories that are great illustrations of God's grace. The most basic message of Christianity (we are saved by grace, through faith) is powerfully delivered.

Left Oriented Political Agenda
Overall very boring and mostly political. Well informed Christains will not find this book valuable. The author seems to have an agenda against faith based voters. I felt like I was being lectured to for hours. His definition of Grace is bizarre. This is the first audible book I chose to discard.
