About this listen

The renowned radio host and one of the most trusted voices in the nation candidly and compassionately addresses the hotly contested right-to-die movement, of which she is one of our most inspiring champions. The basis for the acclaimed PBS series.

Through interviews with terminally ill patients and their relatives, as well as physicians, ethicists, religious leaders, and representatives of both those who support and vigorously oppose this urgent movement, Rehm gives voice to a broad range of people personally linked to the realities of medical aid in dying. With characteristic evenhandedness, she provides the full context for this highly divisive issue and presents the fervent arguments - both for and against - that are propelling the current debate: Should we adopt laws allowing those who are dying to put an end to their suffering?

Featuring a deeply personal foreword by John Grisham, When My Time Comes is a response to many misconceptions and misrepresentations of end-of-life care. It is a call to action - and to conscience - and it is an attempt to heal and soothe, reminding us that death, too, is an integral part of life.

I thought Diane did a fantastic job of helping her audience examine Medical Aid for Dying from a holistic angle. Book raised my awareness about the importance of having choices in end of life decisions.

Thank you Diane

I really appreciated the different perspectives about what end of life means and how it can be approached. It's easier not to think or talk about death, for sure. I thought I knew what my aging parents and I wanted, but after reading this, I realize it's not as "simple" as I have been making it out to be. It's rare and helpful to have insight into what others have gone through at end of life -- in a very digestible, clear and engaging format -- especially since we will all get there one day.

Thought-provoking educational moving must-listen

The content of the book is important and was illuminating. The performance of it drove me out of my mind. Why on earth didn’t Dianne simply interview the people she was going to interview and use those recordings? They were performed artfully, and I don’t mean that in a good way. The only one that didn’t drive me nuts was the interview with her grandson at the end…and there he was speaking his own words in his own voice.

Good Book, weird performance

Once again Diane has presented both sides of a very difficult topic in a thoughtful and beautiful way. We all should have the right to determine for ourselves when our lives should end with dignity and without pain. And we should not have another's religious views imposed on us in that process. Thank you, Diane Rehm!

Beautifully done - and so necessary...
