Publisher's summary

Growing up, Jude McCallister was the bane of my existence.

My best friend. Fiercest ally. The most annoying boy in the world. At 18, the boy I loved to hate became the man I couldn’t live without. We were young. Madly in love. Invincible. Strong enough to weather any storm. Cocky enough to believe that no amount of time or distance could destroy us.

When Jude finally returned home from overseas, it should have been cause for celebration. But the man I’d fallen in love with was gone, and in his place was someone I no longer recognized.

I can't do this, the note said. I'm sorry.

Now, after six long years, he’s back. Only my heart...it doesn’t beat just for him anymore.

This one right here!!

Oh my godddd, this book. Emery Rose what did you do to me?! From quite literally the prologue, I was hooked, no turning back, 100% invested. Lila Turner + Jude McCallister grew up together, spent their days running around getting into trouble with the rest of the McCallisters, and became the best of friends. Over the years, their relationship evolved into so much more, and eventually a deep friendship turned into a fierce love. Jude’s one goal in life was to always join the Marines. Everyone knew of his life plan. So when the time came, Lila sent him on his way albeit heartbroken, and stood by his side for his duration in the Marines. Upon Jude’s return home, it became clear he would not be able to leave behind the horrors of war, and so he did the only thing he could think to do to save Lila. Look, I was HURTING reading this book. I was falling in love alongside of them as kids, having my heart ripped in two, I was mad, sad and just so many emotions bubbled up while reading this book. The way Emery tells this story is perfect, and although I was mad at her for like 5 seconds while reading it, I think this story is so perfect for these two. If you liked the angst in A Love Letter to Whiskey or June First, read immediately. Even if you aren’t a big angst lover, to get to experience this book is SO worth it. I loved these two so so so much. I would love to blab on and on, but I truly don’t want to give anything more away about this book. Just trust me when I tell you, Emery Rose is a phenomenal author and wrote a beautiful story packed full of a rollercoaster of emotions. Listening to the audio and reading truly just made this an unforgettable experience.

When the stars fall

I really enjoyed this book. Actually shed a few tears, which is rare when listening to a book, but also made me smile several times.

Amazing story

I’m so over overly angsty smut books and this story does a wonderful job avoiding angst. Covers many years without being confusing and is in general a beautiful story with extra steamy scenes built in.

The Stars Align ❤️

I loved how the MCs met, which made it hard to hear how Lila and Jude fell apart. They were meant for each other, and they have their HEA. I still think Lila deserved better because Jude ultimately came home for his parents, not her!

This story was complicated but beautifully written. The narration for Audible was perfect. I’d read the next book for Brody. I'm still heartbroken for him.

Great

Great narration by Austin Stone and C.J. Bloom. The shift in voices really brought out the book characters.

Thoughts
I knew I was going to love this. Friends to lovers is my fave trope when done right. And this was amazing. The book sets you up to fall in love with Jude and Lila. This book has so much angst in it. From start to finish. It made me feel for the characters. The audiobook was fantastic too!
