About this listen

Growing up, Jude McCallister was the bane of my existence.

My best friend. Fiercest ally. The most annoying boy in the world. At 18, the boy I loved to hate became the man I couldn’t live without. We were young. Madly in love. Invincible. Strong enough to weather any storm. Cocky enough to believe that no amount of time or distance could destroy us.

When Jude finally returned home from overseas, it should have been cause for celebration. But the man I’d fallen in love with was gone, and in his place was someone I no longer recognized.

I can't do this, the note said. I'm sorry.

Now, after six long years, he’s back. Only my heart...it doesn’t beat just for him anymore.

This one right here!!

Oh my godddd, this book. Emery Rose what did you do to me?! From quite literally the prologue, I was hooked, no turning back, 100% invested. Lila Turner + Jude McCallister grew up together, spent their days running around getting into trouble with the rest of the McCallisters, and became the best of friends. Over the years, their relationship evolved into so much more, and eventually a deep friendship turned into a fierce love. Jude’s one goal in life was to always join the Marines. Everyone knew of his life plan. So when the time came, Lila sent him on his way albeit heartbroken, and stood by his side for his duration in the Marines. Upon Jude’s return home, it became clear he would not be able to leave behind the horrors of war, and so he did the only thing he could think to do to save Lila. Look, I was HURTING reading this book. I was falling in love alongside of them as kids, having my heart ripped in two, I was mad, sad and just so many emotions bubbled up while reading this book. The way Emery tells this story is perfect, and although I was mad at her for like 5 seconds while reading it, I think this story is so perfect for these two. If you liked the angst in A Love Letter to Whiskey or June First, read immediately. Even if you aren’t a big angst lover, to get to experience this book is SO worth it. I loved these two so so so much. I would love to blab on and on, but I truly don’t want to give anything more away about this book. Just trust me when I tell you, Emery Rose is a phenomenal author and wrote a beautiful story packed full of a rollercoaster of emotions. Listening to the audio and reading truly just made this an unforgettable experience.

When the stars fall

I really enjoyed this book. Actually shed a few tears, which is rare when listening to a book, but also made me smile several times.

Amazing story

I’m so over overly angsty smut books and this story does a wonderful job avoiding angst. Covers many years without being confusing and is in general a beautiful story with extra steamy scenes built in.

Austen Stone is a favorite

This story was really amazing and I loved it for the most part. The second half made up for the LONG first half when they were children. I would have loved it more if the stores had been more about them as adults rather then the endless stores of them as children that could have been 1/4 of the story.
I really loved it from when Jude came back from the war and we got the emotional story of his PTSD and how his relationship with Lilia crumbled.
Overall this second chance story would have been an amazing ride if it had been adulthood less childhood stories.

The narrators were amazing tho. Austin Stone and his southern little twang made it for me. And CJ Bloom was great as always. She’s one of the few female narrators who doesn’t talk in this whiny voice I often get annoyed with 👏🏼

One of the best books I've listened to in a while

Amazing story. The characters were witty, the romance and connection between the main characters was off the charts and well written, and the emotions were so intense and sometimes devastating. I cried quite a bit, to be honest.
I also loved the narration. Their accents were fun and the voices fit the characters. I'm moving on to the next book in the series right away.

Love Jude and Lila

Love the narrators! They did a great job bringing the book to life and I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series. If you've never read or listened to Emery Rose you won't be disappointed. She's one of my favorites!
