About this listen

Once a struggling community of Irish immigrants, Lake Erie's Whiskey Island has a past as colorful as the patrons who frequent the Whiskey Island Saloon. A local gathering place for generations, the saloon is now run by the Donaghue sisters, whose lives and hearts have been shaped by family tragedy and a haunting mystery.

When an act of violence sets the wheels of fate in motion, Megan Donaghue, a woman unwilling to trust in love, and Niccolo Andreani, a man unwilling to trust in himself, are determined to learn the truth about one fateful night in the family's long-forgotten past. As an old man struggles to protect a secret as old as Whiskey Island itself, a murder that still shadows too many lives is about to be solved...with repercussions no one can predict.

Critic reviews

"Richards' characters evince impressive depth, and her blend of old and modern makes for a pleasant deviation from the standard historical novel." (Publishers Weekly)

Enjoyable, but too short

I have always enjoyed books by Emile Richards, and I enjoyed this one as well. I do wish had been longer, as I believe the story could have been carried on for a while longer to a more exciting end, but all in all, I did like the book for the most part.
Iron Lace by E Richards is still my all time very favorite book I’ve ever had the great pleasure to read. Thank you.
Very Sincerely, SC

Emilie Richards is the best!

I've read her happiness key series and the shanandoah quilt series. I loved Whiskey Island the characters were very believable and midwestern. I love the Irish catholics in this part of the country. She goes from the present to a family history story from the prohibition The history was impeccable she must have researched the era of prohibition. It's much cleaner than most "romance" novels and not nearly as dry as a lot of historical fiction. Emily uses a pefect blend of each with a lot of suspense thrown in. Loved this book.

Romantic mystery

A short story with romance and a mystery but it wasn't an edge of the seat mystery and the romance was low key.

Don't get it!

I absolutely adored the original. I was heartbroken listen to this version. Whoever chopped it up completely ruined the story. This Abridged version of the story is terrible. they cut out all of the best parts. Key characters are gone as well as pivotal moments for who is left. Do not get this version!
