About this listen

Lord Alaric Wilde, son of the Duke of Lindow, is the most celebrated man in England, revered for his dangerous adventures and rakish good looks. Arriving home from years abroad, he has no idea of his own celebrity until his boat is met by mobs of screaming ladies. Alaric escapes to his father's castle, but just as he grasps that he's not only famous but notorious, he encounters the very private, very witty Miss Willa Fynche.

Willa presents the façade of a serene young lady to the world. Her love of books and bawdy jokes is purely for the delight of her intimate friends. She wants nothing to do with a man whose private life is splashed over every newspaper.

Alaric has never met a woman he wanted for his own...until he meets Willa. He's never lost a battle.

But a spirited woman like Willa isn't going to make it easy....

The first book in Eloisa James' dazzling new series set in the Georgian period glows with her trademark wit and sexy charm - and introduces a large, eccentric family. Listeners will love the Wildes of Lindow Castle!

The narrator uses the same intonation for every sentence, over and over. It’s hard to follow the story because it’s so distracting. Just awful narration, in a strange, breathy voice, which captures none of the playfulness that is signature to James’s novels.

Might be a great book, ruined by the narrator

I have had to stop listening to this book due to the narrator. I will try and go back to it but the way she ends every sentence is spoiling the story for me and makes it painful to listen to. Should have read this one instead.

Horrible narration

Found the beginning slow and boring. It got better halfway through. I don't recommended it.

Decent Historical Romance

I have a hard time reviewing the actual story because the narration was too distracting.

I absolutely love this series. I know a lot of people are meh about it but I really like it! Seriously just the right amount of everything in a romance!

Eloisa James!

I did enjoy the book, but I found the narration to be a bit difficult to listen to.. there wasn’t any range to it, and it made me want to stop listening more than once

Could be better

I love Eloisa James books. They are witty and interesting. They are never boring. Even this, although not my favorite, had all the aspects of a good James book; just not enough. I didn't care for the heroine for some reason but I liked Alaric. And his aunt. Of course there was Sweet Pea, the "American Sable"? 😂

This has the potential to be the first in a long series, which I tend to enjoy. All those brothers and sisters! Because Eloisa is the author I will follow the series.

Not my favorite Eloisa book

It’s impossible not to fall in love with Eloisa’s characters, especially when Susan Duerden brings them magically to life. This is Book 1 in The Wildes of Lindow Castle. I’m looking forward to the next books in the series.

Another Winner from Ms. James

I’ve listened to this series at least 2x. This could even be my 4th time. The plot has so many holes you could probably drive a truck through them, but I like the premise and the characters of Alaric, Willa, Lavinia, Parth, North & Diana. Definitely Duke Hugo & Duchess Ophelia. I do like this book over the next, which covers North & Diana. Again, loosey goosey plot (much worse) but I like the characters.
Duerden does a decent job with narration.
Recommend as very light reading for easy entertainment purposes only.

Liking Alaric and Willa
