About this listen

A riveting aviation thriller of suspense, longing, lies, and a pilot's ailing brain

Captain Robert "Mac" Frank is a seasoned pilot whose life is centered around being in the captain seat of a wide body airliner. Living out of a suitcase has left him isolated. A lifetime of dishonesty has left him empty and alone. His career has filled many voids, but when health puts his license in jeopardy, he discovers he will risk everything to claw for control of his crumbling life.

While alone in the cockpit above the Pacific Ocean, his condition progresses, triggering chaos and ruin. Julie, his young female copilot and former student, is called to save hundreds aboard. Faced with an investigation and certain criminal charges, Mac has to decide what his life has meant and if it is still worth fighting for.

Couldn't Stop Listening

Wings of Deceit is a story of an airline pilot struggling with the idea of losing his livelihood over his integrity. A story much like those seen in the industry every day. The book pulls the reader in to follow along through the life of the pilot to allow the reader a full understanding of the importance of a proper medical exam, and how likely it is that pilots feel compelled to show their best self during their regular physicals. It is obvious the author did significant research, and he provides quite a bit of facts throughout the book. The aviation details were spot on.

As a pilot, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, and found myself laughing, tearing up, and shocked throughout. Great read! I look forward to more books written by William Hoffman.

A heartbreaking aviation story

A quick listen and good story. The author takes on a lifelong journey. Although the story is straight forward, that doesn't take away from a compelling ending.

My only complaint was the infection used by the reader at the end of chapters didn't always match the tone of the scene. As if he was caught off guard by the sentence ending.

Overall a fun listen. I have a weak stomach and there was a moment or two that wasn't suites for car listening for me and I had to wait till I was home. 7.5/10.

Fantastic Thought Provoking Book

A book examining the tragedy of a pilot’s life as he tries to navigate the FAA medical examiner/monitoring process while holding on to his career. Though he continues his career for a time maintaining many lies of his own ultimately to meet in tragedy, one ends the book wondering if the real wings of deceit are the medical regulatory actions the FAA uses to keep the skies safe.

Entertaining, heart touching and thought provoking. Well worth the read.
