About this listen

THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, must stop a disaster of world-shattering proportions in this exhilarating entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

In the supernatural realms, there are creatures who belong to winter. I am not one of them. But like the coyote I can become at will, I am adaptable.

My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

But I’m not alone anymore.

Together, Adam and I find ourselves trapped with strangers in a lodge in the heart of the wilderness, in the teeth of a storm of legendary power, only to discover my brother’s issues are a tiny part of a problem much bigger than we could have imagined. Arcane and ancient magics are at work that could, unless we are very careful, bring about the end of the world. . . .

As always

Patricia Briggs doesn't disappoint. I started this series when Iron Kissed was released and have followed to the Alpha and Omega series and all the novellas. When someone asks for a book recommendation, I instantly tell them about Mercy's world. I absolutely love the character growth we have seen and I'm loving how we are getting multiple POVs throughout the books now. It's hard to say too much without giving spoilers but Mercy has changed so much since the beginning of this series and it has been fantastic to read. She did some things in this book that I don't think the Mercy from River Marked would have been able to do. She has adapted and hardened to be what she needs to be to protect her family. Adam has also changed and gives her what she needs to be able to not feel so suffocated but there when she needs him. I did read some other reviews that complained about the "political" things that were put in the book but I don't see what the difference between putting what Patricia did in this book is any different than any of the others she has; in this book I would compare it to Adam being as accepting of his new hire as he is of Warren. It doesn't take away from the story in any way. If anything, it shows more of Adam's depth of character and how he is so different than a lot of the older wolves. I didn't buy the book yet, just the audio and as always Lorelei did a fantastic job. She makes me forget I'm even listening to it instead of reading myself and submerses me in the story.

Another great needed, still mid, story

I love ALL of Mercy’s books, obsessed! But some (like this) feel like a story that needs to be told to fill issues that otherwise would be gaps in the WOW books that focus on important matters. Patricia has created so many amazing and intriguing characters that she will need a lifetime to fulfill our curiosity and need for continuity rather than wrap ups. Thanks to both Patricia and Lorelei.

Long time fan, but this is a new level

If you’ve made it this far in the series, there is obviously something that you like.

I think this book is the start of many of our favorite side characters growing up and getting their own plots. The way so much was going on was surprising and engaging. It didn’t feel like “just another adventure” it felt like stepping into deeper water.

Loved it and excited for the future!

These stories always keep me guessing and on the edge of my seat with creative additions.

I love the complex connections and easy bonds of so many of the characters. I've grown to care deeply about them all. Lorelei King brings each one to life in such a way that I can see them through her many choices. This world created by Patricia Briggs continues to grow in diversity, complexity. magic, and love. it's such a pleasure to about every word.

Another winner

At first I had a hard time following this one. But once I figured out the method I really enjoyed the mystery of it all. I’m REALLY glad they had Lorelei King do all of the narrating instead of having the male voice we’ve had before. I think it wild have ruined it for me. Another great story in the Mercy verse. 💜

Ahhhh, My Guilty Pleasure Returns

I have loved the Mercy Thompson series with its amazing characters and WTH plot lines since I first ran across book one many years ago. I have not missed a book since. This is truly a guilty pleasure for me that I have no problem admitting. I'm so glad that Lorelei King is still narrating this series. She is the perfect voice for this cast of insanity.

In Winter Lost, a creature from many novels ago rears his ugly head once again. Yep. The frost giant is back. But, of course, he's not alone. As chaos ensues, Mercy and Adam find themselves stranded in the Montana wilderness as a blizzard keeps everyone sheltered in place. This virtual locked room storyline becomes a potential massacre as strangers find themselves trapped in a secluded lodge with no way to contact the outside world as magical shenanigans ensue. This is quintessential Mercy Thompson, and I loved every minute of it.

If you are fan of the series, don't miss this one! If you're new to Mercy Thompson and her world, it's possible to pick this one and enjoy it even though you haven't read the other books in the series. But fair warning: after reading this one, you'll want to go back to the beginning to enjoy the full backstories of this deeply written endearing characters! I highly recommend this series for fans of magical realism, shifter stories, romantic suspense, and fantasies in general.
