About this listen

The "Big Flash" granted every person on the planet their innermost wish.

On that day, some people learned to fly, others became young again, beautiful, rich, or brilliant. But not all wishes were good. A super-hacker collapsed the world economy as other evil men and women were given the capacity to fulfill their darkest desires.

As for Cindy Knight, her wish was simple. All she wanted was to be able to walk again, and to take revenge on the man who had put her in a wheelchair during a cowardly attack that killed her father.

Will society collapse under the wishes of the evil? Will Cindy’s revenge take her down that dark path or help to lead society out of it?

Good short read. Teenager stylebook.

Fun to hear. The reader is very crafty. She is able to make many voices.

Heather Masters was brilliant

The narration of this book was absolutely incredible. There wasn’t a moment I couldn’t figure out which character was talking. From Arnold Schwarzenegger to lowly little henchmen her range was awesome. This story was really interesting a cool break from my normal reads.

Be careful what you Wish for.

Wish, was a fun and interesting take on the superhero/villain super powers genre. The 'big flash' occurs and people's deepest desires and wishes come true. All of a sudden there are people with super powers, people who are young again, people with tons of money etc. Our protagonist Cindy has been wheelchair bound since she had been shot and her policeman father had been killed years ago by a criminal still at large. Cindy can now walk again but she still feels a bit disappointed and left out considering all the other amazing things that other people have received. The world can not handle all that has happened, A hacker has thrown the world into chaos by bringing down the internet, communications and banking and super powered bad guys fill the power void and take over. The baddest of the bad has a connection to Cindy and she has to find a way to stop him even though her only power seems to be that she can now walk and sense when he is close, she teams up with some survivors and police who are trying to do good.

The characters are pretty well written and have a good rapport with eachother, The narration by Heather Masters is spot on and really brings all the different characters to life. The story moves quickly and always kept me interested and entertained. Overall I would definitely recommend.

Excellent story from start to finish.

Unique and fresh. Really enjoyed this book. Great flow and action with just the right amount of intense thrill to keep the earbuds blazing. Pete's writing style is VERY good. I usually don't see this level of writing in a first book unless its been vetted and honed through a large publishing giant. He kept the story moving along without letting it get bogged down with needless details and long winded narrative. The pacing was perfect. Kudos go out to his editor. Heather Masters did a SUPERB job with the performance as well. Her character voices really impressed me with lot's of personality and great acting. Wonderful cast of characters with a really well written villain. Every character seemed to have depth and nuance. Tyler was hilarious! His last line in the book had me laughing out loud. Definitely my favorite.

Great fantasy adventure.

Unique take on the super hero and super villain genre. Loved the plot twists and post apocalyptic angle.

What Do YOU Wish For?

3.5 stars. I liked this. It kept my interest and called me back when I'd had to put it down to do other things. I notice that the author says one of the authors that has influenced him is Brandon Sanderson, and before I saw that, I thought that this really reminded me of Steelheart. Not that I'd say it was copying or anything, but just the basic premise. Here, a "big flash", in Steelheart, it's a comet. In both, people get powers and the world is in upheaval because of that. Here, EVERYONE was gifted, granted some power ... one that they had wished for (without being asked "what do you wish for"). So, lots of the wishes weren't superpowers (although there were plenty of those too). As our MC says ... not ALL wishes could have been granted, because there were still wars, and surely someone would have wished for world peace. There is no peace.

I saw this offered on AudiobookBoom, requested and received the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. Looking on KindleUnlimited, I was able to snag the Kindle copy as well, which I liked having on hand. I like to actually "read" before bed, so I would switch between reading and listening.

Addressing the audio ... I really liked this narrator. I don't know that I've heard her before (Heather Masters) but she was pretty much my perfect audiobook narrator. A very pleasant, natural voice. Good enunciation, good voices of the various characters. Not TOO distinct, in that I'd recognize the voice and remember this story. I hope to hear from her again.

I think my only complaint was the ending. It wrapped up quite well actually, then had a little bit after that just left it hanging a bit. Not really a sequel set-up, although I guess it could be. It just left me unsatisfied at the very end.

Honestly ... it made me think a little about what would have happened had I been in the story. What do I secretly wish for? I think I know ... I'm not sure. That does take some self-reflection.

Parental perspective ... there were quite a few f-bombs throughout, and LOTS of violence, a scene involving a child was a hard to take. No sex ... everybody was too busy for that.

Unique & Intriguing

Wish is a well-written sci-fi and the premise is unique, it draws you in, capturing your interest. The characters are brilliantly developed, they are genuine with depth to their personalities. I particularly liked Cindy, her inner strength captivated me from the start. The plot is rich and complex, I was wholly entertained.

Heather Masters's performance is outstanding. She captures all the nuances of the various characters, the mood, and intensity of the scenes, bringing the story to life.

Overall, the concept for Wish is genuinely intriguing with a fantastic cast and exceptional narration. I strongly recommend this audiobook. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Some really great moments

This book had a great premise. A big flash happens and people are granted their innermost wishes. Of course, the world economy collapses, food supplies dwindle, and the bad guys reign but while that is going on, people can fly, and read minds, and write bestselling books. That's a wonderful backstory!! It's too bad it wasn't fleshed out. We never know if the problem only happened in Boston or if it's countrywide or worldwide. Basically, we get Cindy's quest to kill the man who killed her father and put her in a wheelchair. Since he happens to be the resident bad guy, his wish fulfilled, that makes things easy. Well, easy enough. Along the way, a lot of people are killed.

Masters was a great narrator. This book was non-stop action and activity with a slew of characters. All was performed to perfection.

underwhelmed

Kind of underwhelmed, great idea, but I just could not get into the story that well, main character gets people killed and is angry the whole time, not my cup of tea, but also not the worst thing out there.
