About this listen

Enter a frighteningly familiar dystopian world with the first book of a new series from the author of Falling with Folded Wings and Victor of Tucson.

In the year 2107, the world has both made astounding leaps forward and reduced humanity to its most basic existence. While the megacorps and those who rule them enjoy lives of extraordinary comfort and ease, most people barely scrape by, doing whatever they can to keep going.

Juliet Bianchi is one of the latter. She works cutting metal in a scrapyard and doesn't have much to show for it except for a small group of equally bereft, fiercely loyal friends. Still, she maintains a bright disposition, possessing more hope and optimism than anyone would expect her to—and she's going to need it . . .

When Juliet stumbles upon what looks like a botched kidnapping, the victim dispatches his abductors and lives just long enough to give her a stolen AI chip. This gift soon transforms Juliet from a worker bee into a killer queen. Armed with far more power and skill than she can comprehend—let alone control—she finds herself drawn into a shadowy world where survival itself counts as victory.

Juliet has never been one to push people around. But when it comes to fighting the corrupt corporate overlords, she's more than happy to push back.

The first volume of the hit cyberpunk LitRPG series—with more than a million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

I really want part 2 sooner rather than later

Few books get my attention as well ad this one did. I was completely wrapped up in the story from start to finish.

Wonderful experience

The tale was well crafted and the performance was great. Both author and performer did a wonderful job bringing this tale to life. The setting captured the cyberpunk genre very well. I found the characters engaging and a great set of eyes in which to see the world crafting. Thank you for the experience, I eagerly await the next installment.

Great cyberpunk follow up!

As much as i enjoyed the first book in this series, the follow up was even better! I can't wait to see what happens next, this author is fantastic.

Cyberpunk litRPG writing and acting Perfection

The title says it mostly, I have been drawn into this story more than any book series since I read the Gap series by Donaldson. The VO is top tier and the writing is compelling. Looking forward to more.

Dystopian Hero

Excellent. I finished this book this morning and immediately want to purchase the next in the series. That is pretty much the sign of a good book .. IMO.

A Beautiful Cyberpunk Nightmare

This book is fantastic. Not only is the main character a fully realized and functional person (as opposed to a self-insert shell of a character), but the world building is utterly enthralling. Tons of attention is paid to her process of cybermodding, with detailed discussion and considerations given to each upgrade, and the world itself is a pretty believable post-capitalist mishmash of besieged democracies, ruthless corps, and the cybernetic wild west that's formed in the massive cracks in between as human rights fail all over the place.

The dynamic between Juliet and Angel is quite enjoyable, and more than enough to keep us interested as we rotate through the ever changing cast of characters and locations. From low-level heists to deep corporate infiltration to space combat, this series has it all. The technology is both futuristic and fleshed out, and the culture of the world is always intriguing.

This is a very interesting and grounded take of a world that would give rise to the tropes of the cyberpunk genre, and perfect for anyone who's even remotely interesting in advancing technology, AI, cybernetics, or dystopia.

I thoroughly recommend it. You won't regret it.

Spectacular

This is one of the best progression fantasy novels I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying and I'm amazed that it is not more well known and more broadly discussed. Solid narrative, characterization, and novel ideas make this a real treat.

If I have anything to nitpick, it is the weird character sheets that are occasionally recited despite having very little to do with the character's progression. The progression is great, but the status sheet is not only verbose and overly complicated; it is one of the least relevant ones I've ever read.

Additionally, I'm amazed this is the same author who wrote Victor of Tuscon (which isn't bad, but the first book was slightly better than average and the second was slightly worse than average with both seeming to just be a random stream of consciousness campaign one might expect from a dungeon master making things up on the fly). My hope is that the amount of care and excellence the author has shown in this series will be reflected in later books in that series as I'd relegated it to something to read as filler between anticipated releases. I have to wonder if the author's brand was so injured by previous works that it resulted in people not giving Cyber Dreams a shot.

It's also likely that people avoided it due to the female protagonist and the title making them worry it was erotica or harem. That was my first worry when someone suggested it.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the author's amazing work here wasn't selling as well as his other work that has obviously been shown far less love? Lessons in understanding the market; I guess.

Pretty fun

Good reader. Good, slightly YA story and characters. I’ll check out next one in series because I’m desperate, alone and shameless…
