As if meeting the parents wasn’t complicated enough…
My boyfriend’s snooty parents are coming into town for the Yule Feast and they’re staying at the Beechwood Manor — for an entire week!
With a paranormal meet-the-parents on the horizon, the last thing I need is to stumble into yet another murder investigation, but when I become a key witness, there’s no way to avoid it. Especially not when vampires are involved and my human partner-in-sleuthing is racing right into their path.
I have to shut down a ring of power-hungry vampires, charm a pair of uptight shifters, and keep myself out of supernatural prison. Piece of cake, right?
Bah humbug.

Overall the book and the series are a lot of fun (a big criteria for me when I'm escapist listening). Here we have rogue vampires and a meet-the-parents scenario, murder, and conspiracy. The magical characters are well drawn and individual. I confess that I've lost track of who is who in the coffee shop. Small reminders of their back stories would have been helpful.
My only problem with the story? Holly is in Beachwood Harbor on probation because she's made some bad choices and isn't allowed in magical havens any more. So what does she do? She breaks her parole pretty flagrantly. I don't find this okay. I mean, no mitigating or overwhelming circumstances are presented in order for this to be excusable. She loses some of her heroine status (in my eyes) simply because of the way her potion making is handled. Maybe this will be addressed in subsequent books.
As for Amanda Ronconi - she would have to work hard to do something wrong for my ears. She's light and quirky and connects perfectly with any copy thrown at her. It feels to me as if she's doing more with her character voices these days, which is all to the good.
Recommend - but listen to the other books first.
I'm rooting hard for Nick. Don't judge me.
