About this listen

What would you do with unspeakable power?

Elle Chambers is Edinburgh's hardest-working insurance investigator, and one who solves cases using unconventional means. Supernatural means. Elle is a witch - and a damn good one, too.

In her personal life, Elle wants to know how her enchanter boyfriend, Niall, accrued his wealth. In her professional life, Elle investigates her first cause of death for an insurance company and discovers that things are not always as they appear. To complicate matters, more trouble with the coven and problems with goblins lead Elle to a dangerous place.

Lightweight Paranormal Fun

I like this series even if it's a bit of a guilty pleasure. Nothing challenging, but the main character is sweet and it's interesting to watch her discover the extent of her powers. I enjoy this narrator a lot and think that she brings characters to life in a fun and entertaining way. It's hard for me to imagine the main character without the narrator's voice! Plus, I can always understand her, which is important as sometimes the environment I listen in is noisy. I especially enjoy the scenes with the main character and her boyfriend. It's just fun, with a bit of sex and romance but nothing in bad taste. I also like her young goblin friend too, and I'm really curious how that subplot is going to play out in the next installment (no spoilers LOL). If you like this author's other books, you might enjoy this series too. I'm glad I gave it a try.

Can’t even finish this book

The first book was enjoyable and the second was okay as far as I got. The problem I had was that the main character spent the whole entire book (at least the first three hours or so) whining, assuming and inferring incorrectly, she is also so self-obsessed and can’t see past herself, she uses the excuse of “a case” to invade the privacy of her boyfriend of about a month...an effing month and suddenly she has to know every last thing he’s ever done, thought or felt. She also makes him feel bad for things he can’t control. She’s self righteous even when her own convictions are obviously doing more harm than good and she’s so blind to the harm even when told REPEATEDLY by someone who knows better. If she listened when anyone tried to tell her something, instead of being so caught up in her own assumptions, the book would be two hours instead of five. The issue I had was she is supposedly such a “great investigator” I mean honestly shouldn’t someone with even rudimentary investigation skills be able and willing to listen to other people or look for all explanations rather than the one that she is certain to be true? I get the insecurities of a new relationship and figuring out new things about yourself but honestly it was migraine inducing to listen to her babble on and on and on about things she had no proof of as though they were facts. I mean that literally, I had to stop listening because this book gave me a MIGRAINE. I enjoyed the narrator....but the 35 yr old main character acted more like a suspicious 19 yr old girlfriend and less like a professional insurance investigator.
