About this listen

There's nothing practical about magic—which is why I ditched my wand years ago. Thirteen years, to be exact. The day I left Silverlake. Except now, a family emergency has called me back home, and quite frankly, I'd rather be anywhere but here. But when my aunt raises her wand to cure a friend and he ends up dead, it becomes abundantly clear I'm not leaving anytime soon.

This book was free for me and the cover was interesting so I decided to give it a try, I’m so glad I did! Our FMC is a witch who hasn’t been to her hometown in ten years and she hasn’t practiced magic either, in this story she rediscovered her abilities and catches a killer. I will consider reading more in this series.

Cute short book

Setting the Scene: Thirteen years ago, Angelica (a/k/a Angela, Angie) left Silverlake, her magic, and everything she knew. She moved herself and her broken heart to Chicago where she threw herself into her work, becoming a successful event planner. Now, a family emergency brings her back to the magical town and ready to leave before she ever enters. However, when her aunt points her want at a friend and he dies, Angelica's plans change in so many ways.

What I Thought: I am not sure how I discovered this delightful little gem of a cozy paranormal series, but I am glad that I did. Tropes abound, but it makes me feel, well, cozy, and isn't that just perfect. If you enjoy cozy paranormal mysteries, intelligent protagonists, quirky townsfolk, and interesting mysteries, then this may be just for you. I recommend that you give it a try.

The narrator does a good job of voicing the characters and the spirit of the book.
