Publisher's summary

He’s arrogant, infuriating, and sexy as hell.

I knew Rian would be trouble the minute I met his dark, smoldering eyes. A whistleblower on a major pharmaceutical company, they will stop at nothing to silence him. But his rebellious disregard of my authority will get him killed.

If only I can stop thinking of other uses for his smart mouth, and focus on the job.

Can we stop fighting long enough to win this fight? Or maybe I should just move the battle to the bedroom, and tame the shrew.

My word is my bond - he won’t get hurt under my watch. Unless it’s the kind of hurt he begs me for....

Bonding

Book 3 for this series and Derek the handsome man has been assigned bodyguard duties to the bosses little brother.
Whilst performing his duties which he is reluctant to be doing as it’s in his own private space Derek must deal with Rian and Rian must deal with Derek both are introverts so this is going to make the story all the more interesting but in the end I can say things work out well.
Whilst this is the longest book in the series it is still a short and sweet listen. The narrator for this book was chosen well.

entertaining

Did the story keep me engaged: mostly
Were there any parts I found annoying: not directly
Did I feel an emotional connection to the characters: no
Would I listen to it again: there are others i would listen too before it - but i wouldn't not listen to it again.

I can't pinpoint why, but I didn't really connect with this one and the narrator didn't really hold my attention - there wasn't really anything wrong with him, I just didn't connect to him.
The story was entertaining and had a good pace, there is lots going on and the characters were interesting, but for some reason I just didn't become as immersed or invested in the outcome as I did with the first 2 books of the series.

Narration needs help

Ok so the story and characters are great and I really enjoyed that and the narration wasn't terrible just the accents and voices were inconsistent and I'm not really sure where they were supposed to be from it took away a little from the story but wasn't unlistenable.

Love the Story but the Narrator?

With My Bond by J.P. Oliver is the third book of the Guarding my Heart series. We're introduced to Rian, Gael's younger brother who is a whistle-blower on a major pharmaceutical company and well, he needs protection from the goons who will stop nothing to silence him. Gael enlists Darek to protect him; unfortunately, these two are like oil and water when it comes to personality because when Rian's rebellious actions disobeys Darek's authority, there's no doubt that personalities will clash and lines will get crossed. Darek's only hope is that he and Rian stop fighting long enough to keep him alive and if he should use other tactics such as moving the fight into the bedroom to tame the rebellious man!

So when I read the book, I was instantly engaged (like with most of J.P. Oliver's books) and I enjoyed the whole falling for the bodyguard/victim trope. When I was offered a code for the audio book, I couldn't wait to listen! Until I hit play and cringed. There had been audio books I've listened to that was narrated by some who weren't that great, or weren't invested in perfecting their performance but that didn't stop my from listening because eventually they had some redeeming qualities that made the audio bearable. With Arthur J. Hoyt, I had to mentally FORCE myself to listen to this audio book because I appreciate J.P. Oliver and loved With My Bond when I read it. I had to push myself to almost finish but I just couldn't do it. I was halfway in and just had to stop. The narrator brutalized a story I liked and well, no, just no. I couldn't connect with Arthur J. Hoyt when he was narrating for a whole lot of reasons but I'll just kindly say he didn't hold my attention at all.

The story was great, love the author, the pace was eh okay, the characters were interesting but the narration was very poor; I just couldn't invest 100% into this audio book's outcome like I had hoped with J.P.'s other books, so I can only give this audio book a solid three stars. Happy listening all!

Derek & Rian

A great story. In this one we meet Gael's younger brother, Rian, who is put together with Derek when he needs protection. They clash right from the start and Rian does not want to put up with Derek's authority even though Derek is just trying to keep him alive! Their banter explodes into great sexual chemistry. The narrator was ok on this one, just not very engaging. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

Okay

This story was okay the story itself and MC weren’t super interesting or deep and the narration bugged me the accent came off wrong but I’m not super family with Russian accents but I’ve listened to a few in other books that came off way better. Not a wasted listen.

An interesting storyline

Not a bad story with some mystery that made it a little different and kept you wondering how it would end.
