Sometimes, when you try and do the right thing - it turns into disaster.
Living on an island, miles from the mainland, Mac Travis thought he could disappear. It was a simple life with no worries and fewer bills. Mac was content working his trap lines, fishing the seasons, and diving. That all ended when he and his mate found a turtle laden down with fifty kilos of pure cocaine floating in the Gulf Stream.
What seemed at the time to be a simple rescue, entangles him in a web of deceit and lies. From Marathon to Key West and on to the Dry Tortugas, Mac has no choice but to find a treasure that is better left alone.
Caught in a war between a father and son, Mac and his crew must weave their way through not only the dangerous waters of the Keys and the counter-culture of Key West, but a family history better left buried. Featuring the eccentric characters and locations of the Keys, the ninth novel in the Mac Travis Adventure Series, by best-selling author, Steven Becker is everything you’ve come to expect and more.

The characters in 'Wood's Fury' took me back to the days I managed a metaphysical store. Santeria wasn't my cup of tea but Becker's writing about the religion sounds accurate to me. A character from Mac's past, J.C. shows up and his stumbling navigation thru the rites of the Santeria religion had me grinning and shaking my head.
And yes to my delight, Trufante is a sh*t magnet once again. The shell game that gets played out was when I started thinking that this book would make a great movie. Becker has surpassed Clive Cussler in my opinion and I really hope he keeps writing.
In my opinion, 'Wood's Fury' is a stand alone novel, but it also provided some closure from 'The Inquisitor's Gold: A Treasure Hunting Adventure Anthology' that Steven Becker wrote and Paul J. McSorley narrated. Although the above anthology didn't end on a cliffhanger, I felt 'Wood's Fury' wrapped up that anthology nicely. 'The Inquisitor's Gold: A Treasure Hunting Adventure Anthology' is a crossover of Becker's 'Shifting Sands' series, 'Kurt Hunter' series and the 'Mac Travis' series. As I said though, it's not imperative that you read the anthology before, as 'Wood's Fury' can be listened to as a stand alone.
Paul J. McSorley knocks it out of the park again with his great narration. His voice/accent for Trufante is number one on my list of favorite audio characters. His acting makes Trufante a character you'd love to meet in real life. Albeit a short while, unless you like trouble. Steven Becker and Paul J. McSorley are the perfect combination: great writing and talented voice acting.
I highly recommend this book and series.
another great one
