About this listen

Anita Parker has successfully outrun her past. Six years after surviving a manipulative relationship with a secretly married man, she moved to Boston to start a new life. Now Anita is focused on her future, having landed her dream job as a forensic investigator. But when she has to turn in her notice to Jonathan Jantzen, her eccentric CEO boss, he proposes a counteroffer that Anita can't turn down: marriage.

Being his personal assistant for years (and nearly 40 with no other prospects) the offer is more than tempting-- even though love is nowhere in the fine print, never mind sex. But when the job description gets more complicated despite her best efforts, will the boss's spontaneous gesture spell inevitable disaster? Or will Jonathan's instincts for investments prove him right in the end?

Adorable and Culturally Sound

Great audiobook and story about a successful black woman who has options in life. I love that she was a bit older and was still searching self discovery. I loved flirting and sexy undertones. As an avid this is my favorite romance book of all time! Great read!

Good Listen, Not fond of virtual voice

I enjoyed the storyline, but virtual voice lacks the emotion necessary to really sell it.

I struggled with this one

I was disappointed to see that C.L. Donley's work had been narrated by virtual voice because theres a lot of heart and drama in her books that needs to be emoted and AI cant cut it. I cant imagine listening to Leftovers with Benefits and Finding Camile, my personal favorites, with virtual voice. Work Wife was a struggle for me to sit through even when I tried the e-book, so I cant blame just the narration. Even without the virtual voice, it felt mechanical and dull. I couldnt finish it.

You would think with AI, this would be better!

I had greater expectations for this. It was no where close to being as good as when narrated by a human. I was especially disappointed with the Italian and Scottish accents, awful, sounded as if a computer was reading a book. Just awful! Cute story though!

The narration was horrible

I meant, I made it all the way to the end of the story which was bland and boring, and then at the very end learned that it was narrated by virtual voice so now I know why it sounded like the narrator was reading the newspaper the entire time with no emotion and it made the story that may have been a 3 a 2
