About this listen

Dig deep and you will find the most compelling argument for working together: Happiness.

In business there are always unique individual achievers, but pull down the veil and you'll often find someone alongside them. Michael Eisner does just that in Working Together. Using his own collaboration with Frank Wells at Disney as a launching point for examining other famously successful partnerships, Eisner offers us an intimate and deeply personal look at some of the most rewarding business partnerships, uncovering what makes them tick and offering unconventional wisdom and unexpected insights.

In this essential book for businesspeople everywhere, Eisner shines a light on these startlingly long-lasting and enriching partnerships, weaving together 10 separate narratives - from investment gurus to entertainment impresarios, from fashion designers to big-box retailers - into a larger story about the true nature of achievement in life and in business. Ten stories, ten magical partnerships:

  • Michael D. Eisner and Frank Wells (Disney)
  • Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger (Berkshire Hathaway)
  • Bill and Melinda Gates (The Gates Foundation)
  • Brian Grazer and Ron Howard (Imagine Entertainment)
  • Valentino and Giancarlo Giammetti (Valentino)
  • Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell (Studio 54)
  • Arthur Blank and Bernie Marcus (The Home Depot)
  • Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken (restaurateurs)
  • Joe Torre and Don Zimmer (New York Yankees)
  • John Angelo and Michael Gordon (finance)

Collectively, the stories you’ll hear form a blueprint for building partnerships that matter, that last, and that allow each of us to do our very best work.

Interesting to see what all partners had in common

If you could sum up Working Together in three words, what would they be?

Five word description would be: Partner With Someone You Trust.

Any additional comments?

The book outlined several traits that many partnerships had. What I noticed the most was that to partner with someone, you must trust them explicitly. You should expect that they would act better on your behalf than you might. If you have any hesitancies about a person, including tints of selfishness, laziness or whatever could make them less of a valuable partner you should not partner with them. A great partnership can flourish if at it's core is mutual respect and trust in each others motives.

Great listen as many examples were recounted. It holds interest well.

Felt like a magazine article

Nothing really new here. Just some profiles on famous partners. Would have loved more details about business and success.

bad performance

not a good idea to have the guy read the book....plus it needs to be updated in a big way..... I enjoyed the book, but it would be nice if it was updated, It would be really really nice if it was "read by the author"..... I would like to read other books by this author but you do not have all his books on your application.... Can you please get Michael's books and put them on your App.??

Great profiles of partnership

If you looking for a detailed how-to on creating and sustaining successful partnerships this isn’t the book but if you want to hear about how some of the best partnerships in a variety of fields made it work then this is a great book. I thoroughly enjoyed learning as I heard their stories. Trust, commitment, mutual respect, and great talent seem to be common threads through them all. I recommend it.

I was misguided!

When I bought this book, I thought I will be getting insights on teamwork, however what I found was history narration with too many personalities and names and titles that confuses me so I lost track.

The book has many positive reviews so maybe my misunderstanding has to do with me personally! so if you are buying this book for the teamwork aspect, I don't recommend it.
